manual or auto???

see, the great plan for my toranas driveline was always to drop in a 5 slot supra box, and if it blows up trick up the trimatic i have down the back and slot that in. but the more i think about it the more sure i become that the supra box is gonna chuck it in.
i was going to be running a r55 supra box with puck clutch behind a fairly worked 202. aiming for around the 350hp mark when the nitrous is armed. the car will be used for street, strip and burnouts. perhaps occasionaly hillclimb/motorkanah.
so really, not only will that be a pain to drive round town with large cam and the button clutch, but probably slower on the strip and not the best for skids. i'm fairly sure i would break third before to long with the nos at the drags.
so the thoughts are to get the trimatic beefed up and throw that in. i'm not entirley sure what is the common thing to do, but something along the line of billet mainshafts, eather stage three shift kit or reverse pattern manual valve bodies, b&m pro ratchet, bout a 3000 stall, any other suggestions???
now that i have beat on for a while, i'm just after advice. do you lot recon the supra box will survive, or am i right to doubt it and think strait toward the auto?? next will the auto be strong enough??? and roughly how much would the auto cost me to get setup?? i'm thinking about the same as the supra conversion will cost considering i already ahve the box and it will go strait in.
will be quicker along the strip, easyer around town (but perhaps a tad thirstyer), and do bigger burnouts (start in low gear and go up).
the con for the auto is i don't really like driving auto's, i findi it a bit uncomfortable, and i recon manuals are a lot more fun. plus she's gonna drink on the highway. will be sitting above stall at 100 though so won't be so bad there. i've never driven a shift kitted auto, i hear there fun anyway.
so what do you all recon, what do you run, what are your experiences and so forth....cheers guy's.

If you have three feet, use a manual.

If you are genuinely going to get around 350hp out of a 202, then you will need a stall converter which is much higher than 3000rpm!
Autos generally work out to be cheaper in the end as well. Good clutches are expensive.

So you want 350 HP from your 202, but you are concerned about fuel economy? Sounds like you need 2 cars....fairly worked 202. aiming for around the 350hp mark when the nitrous is armed...
...so the thoughts are to get the trimatic beefed up and throw that in...
...plus she's gonna drink on the highway...

Either way 350hp isnt going to be a daily driver and way more so out of a 202.

have you looked into trans brake's also? they are good for drags and you dont need to have good back brakes.

i gotta say if ur chasin 350 horses then say goodbuy to anysort of fuel ecomony.
the reason i know this is because im in the process of getting a 202 built for me that wil have around 280 to 300 horses and they said that i will be average on fuel depending upon my foot...
if u do go the supra make sure its the box they put behind the twin turbo's cos the other one will last about 10 days before it shatters on u.
cheers

I am more than happy with the new trimatic I had custom built. Each gear is a solid change and not to mention very quick. Along with the B&M megashifter I can give it as much curry as I can and it wont skip a beat.
Trimatic came with a 30 000kay 18month warranty.
I ended up with a Stage 2 shift kit, V8 clutch packs, custom valve body, reverse shift, billet servo etc. High stall (round 2000) etc for $700 no exchange.
I think for this amount a manual supra/celica conversion would cost the same or even more if you dont already have any of the bits. Especially if you were to look into brass button clutches etc.
5 speed does have a better top end range as it does have an extra 2 gears, but by the sounds of it you dont seem to mention wanting to do much long distance driving.
At the end of the day tho it is your choice and your driving style. Guess you need to weight up all the pro's and cons over manual vs auto.
Cheers

no i wont be chasing wiked fuel echonomy. i have a two wheeler for that. but the drag strip is 200km away so i would like some form of echonomy....i'm just saying the auto will drink more on the highway than the manual.
i have gone to get a few prices. dosent sound to bad really, about $1650 for the box, then $600-1200 for the stall....nitrous ones are expensive by the sound of it....then gotta get a shifter and a really really decent trans cooler.....so say $4000. probably bit more than setting up a normal supra box (which i recon will die) or a tad cheaper than setting up a turbo supra one....then i gotta consider toploaders ect....aaahhh the choices....

was just looking at prices for other gear, not so bad. about $150 for decent flex plate, another $150 or so for decent trans cooler and $300 for shifter. so i'm looking at just over three grand. looking promising really.

Decisions, decisions! I might grab the supra box and use it till I can get a good trimatic built, but that means that Im gonna have to cut a hole in my virgin tranny tunnel!
