Hey all
Hopefully heading out to calder next Friday to see what the Torana runs.
Interested to hear your thoughts on what I might run.

Basic specs of the car are as follows

-LX SS Torana
-406ci SBC, engine dynoed at 530hp pump gas, Pulled 308rwkw on chassis dyno.
-4 Speed Toploader Gearbox, Xtreme Ceramic Button Clutch
-31 Spline 9 Inch diff with 3.55 LSD Centre
-Unsure on exact weight, maybe 1300-1400kg at a guess.
-275/50/15 Mickey Thompson ET Street Radials, with plenty of tread

I don't think I will be launching it off the line with the toploader, but once i hit second will be flat out.

Looking forward to hearing your responses.
Cheers
Tim

Your first passes will have little to do with the cars full potential

Mid 12's... maybe sneak in a high 11 when the confidence improves

Low 11's after a few meetings depending on track prep and those tyres (and a change of diff ratio)

Slicks would help big time

I'm running street radials which are semi slicks, so traction shouldn't be the issue

Calder or Heathcote?

You'll run a few tenths slower at Heathcote.

Hopefully you can get a few consistant runs (not too much waiting time). As that will help you improve your PBs faster as you will remember what you did the time before and to change your methods.

308rwkw has the potential to do low 11's for sure! But the toploader won't help your times, and you'll have to really nail your launches!

Practise is the key with this one, don't be disappointed if you run some crap times at first, the more you do it, the faster and faster you will go!

If you were running an auto, with a good stall. I'd say low 11's for sure and 10's aren't out of the question... But yeh, all comes down to your 60ft times.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Not too sure about a prize, but rest assured Quagmire there will be no sexual favours!

Might just add I have gone 12.99 previously in this car with the old motor.
It was a 350 Chev that made 235 rwhp.

Am really hoping for a low 11 but understand the toploader will be the thing holding me back.
Cheers
Tim

Yeah but can you shift it hard? Or is it a shitty old worn out setup that you can't slam gears in?

Assuming you are an experienced driver I will predict 120-122mph terminal speed and with reasonable traction off the line (1.9 sixty foot or better) a mid to high 11 second ET.

I reckon Viper is pretty close to the mark. Have fun! :buttrock:

Thanks again for the replies.
Just found an old timeslip from when I was running the old engine, ran a 13.029 at 166.92 km/h with a 60' time of 1.832. So hopefully the 60' times will be a little quicker with the new engine

If that's the case and you know the car well & know how to drive it, sounds like it will be a fast combo!

Mid 11's?

Dad's 4 door torrie with 475 at the engine through a top loader has run 11.2's at 122 mph but the car weighed 1200lbs at WSID on slicks with dad flat changing. A top loader will kill the driveline and it part of the reason dads not racing anymore. Your not going to get all that power to the ground so work up to full power runs. I reckon big mph 125-130 but the et won't match up mid to low 11's with slicks, and a good track 10's are possible with an auto low 10's easy

Just a quick update guys.
Ended up racing the torry last month at Calder.
They were having dramas with the track and lights all night,
so I only managed to fit in 3 runs for the night.

Quickest was 12.03 @ 118.5mph, with 1.8 60ft times.
Car certainly has a lot more in it. Didn't get the launches down pat, or the gear changes.

Already have had a glide built, with 5000 stall, currently installing it, and have changed the gears in the 9 inch from 3.5's to 3.9's!
So should be quite a bit quicker next time out.

You guys think it will have a 10 sec pass in it?

With a Glide, shit yeah it has a 10 in it!!

118.5mph is good MPH for about 11.5-7??

But with a glide, stall and diff gears that really transforms it! I reckon it has a 10 in it for sure!!!! Plus more and more practice will help too!

Yeah I reckon you'll be knocking on the 10 second door with a glide, 5000 stall and 3.9's. Surely low 11's, which will still be bags of fun! :spoton:
With the same horsepower, TH700R4 and 4.3's, I ran 11.67 @ 115mph (but having to click 4th gear through the traps due to excess converter slip).
As you've probably found, you won't have a problem with MT ET Streets. I know of a local LX Hatch that has run 8.3's on those, with the help of blown BB chev mind you! :3gears:
