Hey all.

i got myself a GTR dash ($150, eBay) the other week, and this weekend she'll be goin in. Other than that, i sold my 173 and 3 speed to my cousin, that'll go in his UC. (the 173 and 3 speed are in my HQ, not my LJ).

Anyhoo, I'm Off.

What's going under the bonnet of the LJ mate?

Stick some more photos up, and put your CarDomain.com URL into "your site" in your profile, then we can all get linked to it. (Click WWW down the bottom of my posts for example)

Good to hear it's all coming along anyway

Under the bonnet? Well, everything under the heads will be under the bonnet. As so many people have put it in SM Readers cars, BBC with B&M Pro Ratchet. No, seriously, the 173 is staying, eventually with Extractors and a 350 Holley. 4 Speed is sitting in the shed, needs a rebuild but that'll be going in soon enough, and as i said before, the GTR dash is waiting for me.

and as for the photos, i cant as yet, as the LJ is 500Km away (sits in corner and cries) but ill be sure to get snap happy on the weekend.

Anyone need an LC 2 door? shes wrecked, but someone might be able to get something off it. major front end damage, but some interior bits could be salvaged. maybe.

Sorry, misread what you said. I getcha now.

Everything under the heads under the bonnet? I'd hope so. Wouldn't it be everything under the air cleaner being under the bonnet? :tease:

Im in Cowell, SA, and i sort of put that up as a joke. if theres anything you need, i might be able to get it for ya, but its fairly rooted. rust everywhere, everything forward of the firewall wrecked. but some of the interior bits might be salvageable.

ill get some pics up on the weekend, maybe.

I reckon the GTR instrument cluster is one of the best cosmetic upgrade to a S or SL. Sure the tacho and other gauges aren't perfect, but if you get them rebuild you will find the quite accurate (If they need rebuilding) for most street driving. :spoton:

Gotta love having a tacho and GAUGES instead of idiot lights.

Nice find, makes a world of difference ey :P

The SL clusters are pathetic too, I've invested in two SL/R clusters for the LX.

Thanks. i LOVE eBay! I got a set of 4 Hubcaps today, $55 delivered. original, white and chrome. Mum wants to keep it original, so dad and i are lookin for some wide stockies, so we can keep the original hubcaps. Personally, i wanna get some 14's on it.

Nice going RIM. I was watching those caps on ebay. They look killer with the white paint (as opposed to black).
The original rims will be 13". You'd have a hard time finding some 14's that fit those caps.

And yeah, the SL clusters are horrible.
I want to keep my woodgrain SL dash with the two holes as im keeping my interior to look as original as possible. I'm hoping to find some nice new gauges that combine at tacho AND a fuel guage in one. That way I'll have tacho on the left and speedo on the right.
Probably only do it if I go through with a manual conversion, tho. Not much point of a tacho on an auto :)

yeah, i know about the cap fitting issue. But, i never said i wanted the hubcaps on 14's. I want either 14" mags or wide 13's with Original hubcaps on it.

i LOVE eBay! I got a set of LJ Taillights, with surrounds, for $25!!! Now all ive gotta do is get mum to get up here and pick them up.

Along with my Bumper (thanks adam) and my cousins 202 block (thanks again adam)

I'll be going home in a couple of weeks, and I'll be able to finish installing my dash, and with a bit of luck try these taillights out.

fifty five bucks for hubcaps!! is that with the dress rims?? i have a full set that i pulled off my little four door when i bought it sitting around up stairs at the old mans workshop! One has a bit of a scratch and ding (considering the engine had a rod thru the block, its not surprising what little old blokes can do) but nothing some polish and a panel beat cant fix! i might grab em down off the parts bench and wack em on ebay. SWEET. OH! Smeer, we just did a like month resto on a little 4 door LJ SL, with the standard dash, but we simply pulled the dash out, marked some holes and with a hot blade, cut two holes in roughly the same places as the ones on the GTR dash.( VDO gauges from another GTR dash, fit nicely in from the front and their fascias sit nice)It was good to replace the idiot lights. It sounds confusing and i would put some pics on but we sold off the car and i never took any photos of nething on it!! the other thing we did (but removed when we decided to sell) was mounted a little old skool tacho next to the underdash fascia. looked pretty dam good.

Cheers, Chris.

Woohoo, only 2 weeks before i get to go home! which means only 2 weeks before i get to finish putting my dash in! Also, the parents say that as soon as it is out of rego (in about a months time) It'll be going into the Paint & Panel Shop.

And because the front end has been quoted as unfixable, i need a new LJ front end, a bit of rust aceptable but must have no major dings. (please PM me if you have or know of one in SA) I'll have a squiz at the wreckers, if i get a chance.

Sounds pretty good, I would have recommended taking a front end off a four door and selling the two door to someone who might be able to restore it, but I'll leave you to your work and I'll do mine.

Photos! We wanna see the rolling shell.
