Leave stock

I haven't seen a kit for the LH-X but the thought of mods on a genuine car don't appeal

CRS make them. If your modifying everything else go for it.

Where do you get these "chase" kits? I'd like to see one. :)

Depends on the intended use of the car. If it will be a daily with close to stock powertrain then I would not bother.

Are they reasonably hidden? Or not too noticeable when they are fitted?

I don't want to enter into an argument about Howards car
Its an icon

But... its not rego'd, can't be driven on the street , would be difficult and expensive to return to stock... and you wouldn't want to anyway

Great car.... and not knocking Howards reason or purpose for building it ... but we're not talking about 2 apples here

The harsh reality is that L8's market value now is very likely much less than if it was still a stock and well preserved LX SLR 5000..

I'd give you the price of a stock well preserved LX SLR 5000 for L8 tomorrow Howard...

Howard car is a full on track car and I have seen it in action
the car is a great piece of engineering from front to back
So its hard to knock it for what it has been built for.

So I take it nobody has any infor on these kits then or how well they work

the old tarmac rally hatch does not have a cage. no signs of it flexing but the rear suspension pick up points certainly need some attention!

Think you missed the joke there mang.

It's spelled CHASSIS, not chase.

For any kind of racing, you will probably get addicted and want more. My 2c is: make your own kit from RHS steel, strengthen the pickup points, control arms etc.

Some great threads on here with all the info and inspiration you need.

I would not do it to an original though. Unfortunately, the best thing you could do with it would be park it in storage and buy a clapped out LH or LX to fix up and race.

The CRS kit is a bolt on job that is easier to fit to a bare shell.

The back seat needs to be removed to drill mounting holes. There are holes that need to be drilled in the front chassis rails that are easier to drill with the guards removed. I have one fitted on a hatch if you want to have a look.

Good point... Mine was done while it was a bare shell also, Would be alot harder on a complete car

I f your thinking of putting one in stop thinking about it and do it.
I put a CRS one in the Hatch and it helped with the handling and as an added bonus I'm sure it saved the lives of three of us in the car car when I inverted it. Without the kit the car would have folded folded for sure.

as moot says, if you're after 10's... well, you'll twist the car nigh on in half without one. my brother twisted his over time running mid 11's.

If you are chasing 10's then you will need a six point cage. If you have a six point cage then you could just fit chassis connectors to reinforce the lower control arm mounts.

I have a full chasis in mine only because rego required it 20+ years ago, but mates of mine have 400plus horses at the tyres in stock chasis with no signs of stress. Even Warren Appelbys old 9 second hatch had no real strengthening except roll cage ect. So unless you are chasing records its not really needed.
