As I have posted in the driveline section,
am converting the LX from Auto to manual,
these question are about the escutcheon panel in the console,
as well as the manual gear shifter boot,
Are there different types of the escutcheon panels?
as I would like to find the original SS type.
Will post a pic of the current one, when I find my camera.
This is another thread,
has a pic Leaky posted, shows a escutcheon panel.

Is this one the original type?
Manual shifter boot,
How is it held into the console?
Can you buy a new one?
Saw this on eBay, but don't think it will fit.

The one on ebay is for a sedan, not the sunbird type.Hi Big Chris, the one on eBay with the black plastic surround will suit a manual Sunbird, nothing else in the Torana range. The boot itself may suit any applications though. I need one, or I might make one... it doesn't have to be original...
As for the console being for sale, I hadn't thought about it. I might consider a good offer. The switch panel you have is for an early hatchback. The vinyl boot is very easy to make, I have a couple cut out ready to be stiched at home for both hatches and sedens in the correct material.

RED are the Rare Spares manual inserts right for the hatch?
Are they not a little too fat around the plactic retainer, ie to suit large holden console?

I've got a ruined auto plate that apparantly can be hollowed out, and the frame be used for a shift boot. I can get a collar from anything really... or I don't even need one. Does anyone have pics of boots they've made up?

And for those wondering, yeah the car's a 1977 Sedan, but I have Sean's console in it that is obviously LH.
If you could do some kind of scanned diagram or paint diagram with measurements and stuff it would be fantastic. I'm in no rush for it, and as long as I can understand it it doesn't have to look too flash.

This part is in the LX parts manual but from memory does not list a body style.
The RS unit appears to be straight black and does not have the grey "insert".
This area I will need to tackle in the future so I will take an original to compare when the time comes.
Someone on Ebay is selling dash and console inserts that are grey and look OK.
The console insert may be all that is needed to complete the RS unit for an SS hatch.
Any thoughts or experiance?

As you may know, mine was a rough unit when I got it. One owner tried to trade it in for a "gasp" 924 porsche but was knocked back.
It has been driven into the ground by every owner and everything has been costing $$$$ to bloody fix. Up until a few years ago I was investing at a loss.
Just as well I never intend to sell!
It's all the little things that take so much time.
Got the diff out at the moment and found more grief. Here we go, more $$$$.

If he's no longer doing them, he can paint some woodgrain ones if you have them. Another option is to go looking for some. Pretty sure the HX style ones are the same for the front one, and the rear one is thicker, but can be cut down to size to suit LX hatch.

The replacement part for the SS,
not perfect,
but is in good condition, will fill in the hole under the radio.

Cheers
Chris.
