I know this has been discussed somewhere before , but have never found an exact answer , so is it possible for the stick of a tremec to come through the original hole in the floor of an LH/LX torana , if so what is the best one to get and or is there a part # for one of these box's , any info would be greatly appreciated , before I try to chase one up , cheers Brutass

G'day mate.

I have a TKO in my LX hatch, came through the standard hole.

There is another thread on the same topic with pics, if you spend some time on the search function.

Mine had to be trimmed 20mm at the back of the std hole. Still looked factory and 20mm is bugger all. I did have a pro 5.0 short shifter on mine though so not sure if that was bulkier than the std shifter

Stupid question time!!!!

Are they good gearboxes? I don't know anything about transmissions.....
I really should be thinking about what to mate up behind a 383.
Also, are there any kits or anything to make them a sequential shift?

Only proper sequentail shift boxes on the market are Hollinger and they start at $16,000. You can get euro boxes, but got to convert etc, and also not cheap.

That would be a question for Welby, as he drives his Torana hard every time he takes it for a drive, don't think hes had any issues.

Mine is still in a million bits, so cant comment on how well it performs, but it fits in without any modifications at all.

Tremec are great gearboxes. I think the T56 need the major modification to the tunnel, TKO just need to relocate the hole... I think..

I'll take one of those then!
I like not having to mod things to get them to fit....

Mine fitted in through the STD shifter hole. Call Mal Wood Auto for a complete bolt in kit. Very nice shifting box.

Cool! What is the average asking price for a new or reconditioned TKO?

You'd be hard pressed to find a reco one, new there about $4,000 + shifter, knob, clutch, bell housing, hydraulic throwout bearing, remote reservoir and peddle etc. etc.etc. The list goes on, depends how far you want to go & what you need, mine cost over $6500 but I got the burger with the works. :)

Yes they're a great box. I've got mine behind a 383 chev in my grey hatch and fits in the original hole.

Mal Woods from Queensland imports them and here is a link to his website,

http://www.malwoodauto.com.au/tremec.html

Here's a couple of pic's as well.

No issues at all, other than the xmember

Mine was a mal wood kit, bolt in.

I will say that the crossmember supplied with mine had the box sitting too low at the rear and i believe that to be a common complaint.

Great shifting piece of kit, hasn't had a hiccup 5 years and 7600 k's. Hard k's! :3gears:

Buy the box through summit. Heaps cheaper than buying through mal wood. Buy a good clutch too from there. Then you only need bell housing, clutch fork, xmember etc. you'll save at least a grand from buying mall wood.

and without wanting to enter into the argument of where to buy, please remember the Tremec range of boxes come in a variety of shifter locations and main shaft sizes, so do your homework if not buying from Mal Wood.

check his website for detail
