I've been on the hunt for some SL/R original hubcaps for a while, although been happy to wait till the right set came along at the right price.

I dropped in to see a mate. The next door neighbour, who I love talking to said he'd been cleaning under the house and found something I might be interested in. I thought oh, yeah, prolly some old EH parts. Before having a look he said, I don't want much for em, just $20. Well f&#k me, if he doesn't pull out a almost perfect set of SL/R hubcaps, including Holden centre caps.

I picked up my jaw off the ground and said, do you realise how much they are worth? He said, yes, but I just want somebody to have them that will appreciate em. Well I couldn't give him just $20, I said I gotta give you $40 minimum. Stoked!!!

Good things must come to those that wait.

Just curiously, what are they worth?
I've seen zillions of them around the place on S and SL's.
Have I been been missing out on an easy cash in? :P :tease: joking

Even found perfect spotless trim for em in a chrome-trim bin at the wreckers as well.

Put it this way, when I have seen em on E-bay I stop bidding at $120, and those usually aren't in too good condition. And they ain't on there too often.

Hrm, makes me wonder if I should remove mine incase someone flogs em.
Didn't realise they were worth that much since they didn't seem to be rare to me.

Might have to go plunderin' at the wreckers and start collecting em and selling em on ebay for a giant profit :)

Wow I never knew they were worth money either! Good score Yella.

Now I'm upset though - not long after I bought my hatchback I was taking a shortcut near the city to avoid our overly crowded Chapel St, and heard some horrible rattling noise in the street. Thought nothing of it at the time until we got home to find one of my SLR hubcaps had fallen off!!! BUGGER! My Dad had a spare one floating around, so I have a complete set once again at least, but still.....

Maybe I should chuck them on ebay...

^ That's prolly where the original ones are of my car as well JNR ATE, I think that's why they are so hard to find. SS hubcaps seem even harder to find.

Prolly never going to use them, but at least they are there if anybody ever wants to take Ole Yella back to original. I hope not. Probably only use them when/if I ever have to put the rego set of rims on the car. Looks pretty ordinary with black skinny rims.

A mate of mine had a set of these NOS he took to a swap meet, I think he sold them for about $80. I was talking to the guy who bought them and he only wanted the centres to try and replace centres on some old GTS rims he had. I bought them back off him to save them but it cost me a little bit more.

$120 or more on Ebay doesn't mean they are worth that much.

$25-30 for an average one, upto $40-50 for a NOS one.
So $200 a set maybe for perfection......:D

Grant..

$200 for a perfect set you recon?? They were more than that new. The SS ones I have were something like $58 each. I'm not willing to get rid of these ones yet as I still have my eye out for a stock 5000

You'll have to ask the Ford guys that question.
