I run 225/50 Tyres on my Hatch...

Few companies are now making them again... Falken make them as well as another brand I cant think of off the top of my head.

theres a brand called cobra and st george tyres sell them

i strongly recommend not to buy these tyres,i was running the 352 yoky,s, was talked into the cooper, fitted them a 265/50/15 they were a good inch narrower, which was yuck,i perrsisted to use them, millage was shit and they wore in middle with only 28psi,on a holden 1 tonner, the 352 wore evenly as did the bridgstone before them.

you can see how narrow gutted they are on the rear of slar,s pictures.

i will never buy these shit tyres again.

I feel totally demoralised now

sorry mate,

i felt ripped off aswell, one would think they would atleast be the same size, they look more like a 245,i just want to steer people away from them.

they will do the job,but they are narrower than other brands, and didn,t wear well for me,and i don,t do burnouts in my work ute,as i need it to be there at all times.

I would have thought that 235/60/15 would be too big for the front

How dothey look and how much modifcation ,if any did you do

cheers

Dont waste your time fitting the 235/60 to the front as you wont be able to turn due to sever rubbing. The OD is to big.

I have 235/60/15 on my car. It doesnt have severe rubbing, and not too much modification. I had to trim the inside return part of the lower front of the front flares on both sides.

Thats about it.

Visually I would have preferred 225/60/15, but Yoko do not make that size.

Faliba, I am on the Eastern Beaches in NSW (Coogee/ Bondi) if you would like to see the car, or even try these wheels on your car.

I find the rears rub a little, with a 5" inner.

I only live at hurstville but only problem is that the car is not running yet. So you think that the 225/6015 front and 265/50/15 rear would be the go?

I would not put 60s on the front and 50s on the back doesn't make sense to me.

The best combination is 225/50/15 on the front and 285/40/15 on the rear without a doubt

^ The profile is a percentage of the width, 285/40 and 225/50 have a similar sidewall height in absolute terms

huh? I'm guessing 265/50 rear and 235/60 front...?

The V5s look awesome!

By running a 225/50/15 on the front you don't need to modify the flares. By running the 285/40/15 on the rear the tyres wont scrape and they will have the same sidewall as the fronts meaning it won't look like a tractor.

Hi, 225/50/15 has a diameter of 23.9 inches, 285/40/15 has a diameter of 24 inches so they are really close to being the same size from the side profile.

225/60/15 has a diameter of 25.6 inches, 265/50/15 has a diameter of 25.4 inches so these are a 3/16 of an inch or 5mm different, not really visable from the side profile
but will cause rubbing problems on the front flare due them being 1 and a 1/2 inches bigger in diameter and also cause a greater error in your speedo readout.
cheers

Best is

255/45/15 front.
285/40/15 rear.

225 look WAY too skinny

If you can come by the 255's that is. The 225's don't look skinny at all, it's still an 8" wide rim. I know at least I can go full lock and not touch the original uncut flares

The 255/45/15 on 9" clear better that the 245/50/14 on 8" but as you say, no longer available and they are soooooo old and hard they are only really for display purposes now.

For every day stuff

245/50/14 front
265/50/14 Rear

Yoko's

I'm finding that 15" tyres are even harder to find than the 14". Where can you get the 225/50/15 & 285/40/15 tyres & what brand are they? I want to go 15x8 & 15x10 GTS style (Pontiac Rallies) but really struggling to find tyres.
A 15" wheel set is the max I want to go but getting the right combo is hard. Isn't there any demand for Old School anymore?

^ I think the demand for the older stuff is actually increasing, the more you look around for wide tyres the more seem to pop up that were previously unavailable, in a limited set of sizes though (e.g. 265/50/15 and 225/50/15 are easy to come by but others still not so much)

The 255/45/15 on 9" clear better that the 245/50/14 on 8" but as you say, no longer available

That would explain why I couldn't find any on the web - you got my hopes up when you first mentioned that size! Would look great and no doubt help a little with the low speed understeer

Hi guys,

Just digging up this old thread (rather than starting yet another one!).

A question to all the guys running 15 x 8's with 225/50x15 on the front of their flared Torry: what offset works, and what offset is absolutely ideal?

Also - anyone running a 15 x 7 with the same size tyres - what offset do you have?

It looks like I'm about to buy a new set of front rims for mine (to replace the cheese-cutter 15 x 4's, so it's time to choose a rim width. I'm keen on the 225/50 tyre size, so just want to make the right choice with rim selection.

My rears are already 15 x 10 with 5" rear-space, running 265/50.

225/50/15 on 7" wheel (I think the backspace on these was 3.5" or 3.75", not 100% sure, whatever the standard backspace is for S/S Cragars?)
Posted Image

Same tyres on an 8" wheel with 4.25" backspace
Posted Image

Either of which requires the lip on the edge of the firewall to be flattened or removed, with the 8s it was very very close but still just got full lock.

I do have a Hoppers 290mm brake kit on the front but I don't believe it makes any significant difference to the track width.

Great info, thanks mate! Always good to see photos too.

In Convo Pro's, I can buy any of the following:

15 x 7 - 3-3/8" rear spacing
15 x 7.5 - 5" rear spacing
15 x 8 - 4-1/2" rear spacing
15 x 8.5 - either 3-3/8" or 5" rear spacing

Does anyone have photos with any of these Convo's on the front????

Man I wish you could still buy 245/50 x 15's.

I'm actually a little worried about dumping the front of my car even lower. I have HQ stub axles and A9X springs. It's already low enough;

Current tyres are 165/80 x 15 which equates to 25.39" tyre height.

The 225/50x15 works out to 23.86" in height. That's 1.5" difference (lower). Not good.

If I could get 245/50x15 they'd at least get me back to 24.65" height. Only 0.74" lower.

Hmmmmmm.......

I think you can still get 225/55, I definitely like the idea of the front rolling diameter being bigger/closer to matching the rears (new wheels and tyres will be much closer). However bear in mind that due to the scrub radius increasing diameter and increasing the overall width both cause issues with clearance that may require some work

Cool.... 225/55 could be a better option. That's a height of 24.74".

Thanks for all the good advice :)

285/40/15's are stupidly expensive if you can find them,
295/50/15's are to big for most cars and dont sit to nice,
275/50/15's were my favorite, but they are long gone now,(and a 275 in a drag radial is pretty much the same size as a 295)
265/50/15's are hard to get in something decent.sumito and hancook measure very small, maxxis seem to be the only ones that measure true
