I saw a pic of a sedan with hatch doors in a magazine about 15 yrs ago or so
Also in primer

I'll see if I can find it

There was a brown LH with yellow hatch doors in Street Machine sometime in 1991

That one looked awesome, had flares, louvre and hotwires. Came across it recently when I was looking for inspiration, no further info though.

I have a rusty UC here that I have been toying with the idea of turning into a burnout car - I reckon a quick two door conversion along with steel flared guards, balloon rubber with white lettering, riveted sheet metal spoilers, Camaro hidden headlight style front, sheet metal bonnet bulge/scoop etc would be pretty cool. Sort of a Nascar style thing all round

that is out of beachball restorations .....if memory serves

The article that picture was in was about Bill Jones shop Weldwell Engineering, the guys who built that dark blue pro street EA falcon that was in street machine in the eaqrly 90's. From what I heard it was a customers car, who never paid so it was scrapped. That's what I've heard anyway, so don't take it as truth.

Hi Dirtbag, that 2 door conversion above is screaming out for your work mate :) If not that one then another like it but better of course :)

I would like to see a properly finished one but the concept to me doesnt look half bad.

Cheers
H.

What a great job. I've done penty in photoshop.... :)

I am wondering though, why the need to use hatch doors?
Would it be purely for ease of entry in to the back?

Always pictured the sedan doors, and rears welded up.

If you use seats out of say a Cordia or Supra, they fold forward,
then slide forward as well to facilitate entry.

i prefer the door following the roof line,as the brown car has.

that was one bit i didn,t like with the undercoat car,i would think he is saving money on the glass, but i must say he is giving it a real go and good luck to him.

^ Didn't notice the roof line/window frame thing until you pointed it out, looks awful now!

Interesting thought Leakey, I never would have considered using standard length doors (most coupes have longer doors) - that kind of has a longer/sleeker look to it, almost European type styling (shades of BMW?). Not sure whether it would work cosmetically or not but far simpler to convert!

I'm going out on a limb. First one don't like. Magazine one started to understand then I saw leakeys version and I thought that's cool. I think this 2 door mod needs the flares etc or maybe it's just my preference.

i had heard the guy that painted my car was building a torana like that 2 door sedan and in the past year he has moved from perth to brisbane, taking the car with him.
maybe just maybe its the same car.
IF it is the same guy he painted mercules, the old ford mercury that won best panel and paint few years ago at summernats.
his name is sean used to be impact panel and paint in perth.

not the same one, seans it alot better looking than that one, his looks really factory, keep an eye out for his, he wants to debut it at summernats or motorex next year

Dunno, the B pillar is done differently - I prefer the way the one from the magazine has been done. Also the bonnet, under bonnet and boot are purple which makes me think that the whole car used to be that colour whereas the other one was obviously brown to begin with (not difficult to change paint colour of course, but to me it just looks like a new build)

Agreed. The B pillar on the other torana looks weird. The door doesn't blend in with it. The one in the magazine does and looks much more like it left the factory like it. That's the key to good mods, it has to look like the car was made like it.

Proportions of the rear window just look all wrong Col, they should have butted the door frame against the window frame like the red one instead of opting to use the hatch vents IMO.

I would like to see what one would look like with the B pillar and door frames removed, along the lines of a HQ Coupe.

I'd like to do that to a 4 door one day
Make it into a pillarless hardtop design like my Caddy
thought about suicide rear doors like a Lincoln but not sold on the idea
