Thats a big price for a lighter !

I heard that SLR owners used to lock their cars to stop people from pinching their ashtrays- that was then they would fetch $100-$150 on Ebay.

With cigarette lighters fetching $160- SL owners better start locking their doors to stop people from pinching their nob(s).

(--- No pun intended ---)

Usually if its a part i have been searching for for some time ill make sure i win with a stupid bid..Lol ...Heres a screen shot from my iphone of my retardness when i bought my seats.

Total myth, it doesn't take much to open an SL/R or any LH-LX or HQ-HZ 4 door for that matter.

Stealing the whole car isn't too hard either so no SL/R owner would leave his car unlocked regardless, they were a hot ticket item on thieves shopping lists back then.

Its not a total myth..... FYI

I heard it from an owner at TORANAFEST who was showing his car.

He said he used to leave it open when showing it, but now shows it locked up to avoid having to watch his ashtray all day to stop it from getting pinched.

I was propmted to remember this when I saw the price of the lighter in this thread.... its nearly $1000 for an ashtray and a lighter these days.... not far behind the price of a packet of ciggies !!!!

Ahh you mean locking it up at car shows, I thought you meant locking it up in the street, car parks, etc.

My SS ashtray has been "bolted" into its housing since the early 80's when it was my daily driver.
They were imposible to replace back then!
