They were gal. Never came in chrome. There is always an argument about what grade/shade of gal they should be but never chrome...

I think they were more likely silver cad plated. Galvanising is a hot dip process.
Whatever they were never chrome.

chroming of the sill plates was very common on LC/LJ's, the original zinc plating was thin and prone to wearing off, then rusting. The screws holding them on are a bit odd, the've got a small head for the gauge of the thread, the're not the same as HQ's(which are sort of flat on top) i'll take a pic tonight and post it.

finer70 has the right of it , the sill covers were silver finish cadnium plated. you could get two types of finish in cad , silver or gold ! & thats it !!! for GM vehicles.
the finish was & is a soft finish hence they tend to wear/rub off on high traffic areas so after a while they rusted. the actual metal cadnium is a highly poisonius substance and has mostly been banned for a long time :furious: . but for that concours resto you might want to try looking for someone in the aeromotive ind as they still cad plate parts etc nowdays !!!!! otherwize zinc does the colours you need for resto but is easier to get hold off & is more durable. :D D

I got some motorbike stuff cad plated a while ago, but they could only do gold for some reason. I think zinc is a better option and it doesnt cost the earth. it cost me $130 to get my bonnet hinges, latches, door hinges and all the bolts zinc plated and they look great
