That's pretty normal for these things.

I thought it was unusual to leave bits that big.

So, pissing the v6 off next weekend for an EFI 5L and auto out of a VN.

I'm assuming the Commodore extractors won't fit, so does anyone know where I can get some cheapish EFI extractors to suit HQ-WB? Basically just after something to get it in the car and running, and sort out something decent when the motor comes out again for paint etc.

Cheers

Some heat should make them fit.

True. But I have no heat at my place, and I'm hoping to have it in and running next weekend. Maybe not drivable, but running at least. See how I go I guess.

You might have some luck with the stubby stainless extractors (not full length) that some VN-VS came out with?

Also, what are you doing with the V6 running gear?

Like the HSV ones?

Dunno what I'm doing with engine/box yet. But I'll have a pair of v6 engine mounts to suit HQ-WB that I won't need.

The original VN tube style headers will fit straight in (similar to VN-VS HSV ones, they fit too). All you have to do is weld up the 02 sensor bung and weld a new bung in about 90 degrees from the original one, otherwise it hits on the lower control arm mount. That's all that needs to be done, i run them on my injected 5 litre WB ute.

These are the HSV ones?

http://www.ebay.com....=item3a6f70ab6a

I'll let you know bout the mounts Orange, dunno what they're like, ie bought, homemade, dodgy etc...

Are these the ones you mean BlownV6?

Just need to know what I'm looking for, I'm not up on Commodore exhausts haha

I meant the top lot, stainless steel welded extractor style headers, they are prone to cracking though (being stainless its not surprising)

the bottom ones look like they would work too, nice and short.

Yeah the bottom ones say one is cracked in the ad. Least I know what I'm after now.

Cheers for that. It's been put back a couple of weeks now due to my brother, who'll be giving me a hand, having to work and me going away for a few days soon but I'll let you know about the mounts when they come out.

Gives me time to chase up the few bits I don't have anyway.

These are the ones i have.

http://www.ebay.com....96#ht_500wt_949

They fit fine apart from the 02 sensor like i said. The HSV ones in the listing you posted (the first item) are similar, except they don't have the ball type flange, they have a normal 2 bolt flange plate and the pipe is slightly longer between the collector and flange plate. Either will fit fine.

The second ones you posted are cast iron, steer clear of them. If they're cracked they're pretty much stuffed.

I also modified the Commodore Y piece to mate up with my existing exhaust, it all worked a treat.

Thanks mate, the links I posted were just for the pics more than anything.

So, I'll chase up a pair of either ones, whichever I find first.

You can weld up the cast iron ones reasonably well (used to do it all the time when we had the exhaust shop) It just takes alot of patience and its no gaurantee to last.

Ok, I've got headers (actually won the ebay ones that Blownv6 posted a couple of posts up :) ), engine mounts, sump + pick-up.

I think that's all I need to physically get the engine in the car? Anyone know anything else I should be aware of?

Cheers

A large box full of profanities and expletives usually comes in handy when things were not made to go together.

Far as I can see it's still got the original mounts on the crossmember and they've used conversion mounts on the engine. Will find out when it comes out.

I forgot Joshes one had the v6 in it when he bought it.

you planning on getting it running?
or just sitting in the bay?
a holden 308 is always a holden 308
so if they are all hq-z compatible parts you will be fine

ps ...remove the whole "walk off" front.....makes it a heap easier :)

Running would be nice, but gotta get it in there to start with. Yep, will be walking the front off, makes it a shitload easier.

Bit of an update, nothing special but it's raining and I'm not doing anything so here I am.

Front end is off and I pulled the engine out last weekend. Looks like this now:

Bye bye v6

Bout it so far, still got to pull the v8 out of the VN yet. Can't wait for that haha

I did get a 17x7 set of these for it though. Pretty good for the price. Waiting on them to turn up here, so just got this pic off the net.
