i guess we were lucky in the late 80s and early 90s seems we were seeing the fuelers at willowbank at least once a year.my old man reckoned "ya wanna see the insides of a girls pants?take her to the drags!" must be something about gettin your wind belted out of you by some guy in a rocketship 50 feet away trying to get his eyeballs to stop distorting.the smell of alcohol, the sting in your eyes, guys running around middle winter in thongs and flannos covered in grease.........the stuff young girls fantasise about i guess.

Interesting read,a steam traction engine built around 1920 of 10 nominal HP about 70 BHP at the flywheel will lift the the front wheels off the ground from a standing start if ya crank open the throttle to quick, and by that i mean with the engine at a stand still, how do i know this you ask because i did it lol

I have a piston and rod from Cowan's car, Got it many years ago at the track when they used to give them to the bystanders watching them rebuild. The piston is a teflon coated Venolia with a tapered tool steel pin and the rod is a custom Howard piece. It was from the first side by side 4 second pass run at Willowbank. The ring lands are folded down with the oil ring crushed and the tool steel wrist pin has flexed enough to extrude the small end of the rod. The rod itself compressed in length to a point where the crank counterweight has clipped the underside of the rod end.... and it still didn't bend! It is a HUGE rod though! That's some enormous pressures.
