The car was only tec screwed together for transportation. I've spent a couple of nights trimming the wheel tubs to get the wheels central in the wheel arches, back to front.

It's a bit time consuming. Mark out a bit, lift, trim, put down again but It's getting there. You'll notice about 25mm of the Stato wheel tub remaining in the first pic. The plan is once front to back is correct, the tubs will be massaged sideways to meet each other at the same time centralising the wheels to the side of the car.

At the moment, there are no rear springs fitted, 2 pieces of steel tube take their place.

I find the measuring stick easier to use than a measuring tape.

So, the rear end is squared up to the shell. The wheels fit the arches front to back and left to right and the cradle is tech screwed in position.

I've been out today and bought 4 x 4 metre lengths of 1.6mm x 25mm x 50mm rectangle tube.
2 to use as straight edge/referance (big measuring sticks) and the other 2 for framing.

The next obstacle is the front alignment. You'll see that the Stato rail is not parren-perpin-dicular to the Torana rail and also the the wheel is too far forward in the arch.

Posted Image

Posted Image

The plan is to move the Stato front back a bit more as the rails align and then maybe cut and paste the wheelarches using 2 guards per side? Aligning the rails will also lower the strut towers a frag and the bonnet should fit without interferance. :dontknow:

I don't remember HOLDEN ever releasing a model called a Skyline? :dontknow:
I will be using all HOLDEN O.E.M parts unless fabricated.......................but thanks for your input. Posted Image

No F@RD diffs, no twin Subaru motors.

And yoose others?
Regarding the UC lights? What lights? I don't see no lights? :dontknow:

What sort of idiot would want to put twin Subaru motors in a Torana :shoot:

I would leave the wheel exactly where it is - more room to fit bigger tyres and should handle better with more weight inside the wheelbase. Just cut'n;shut the guards instead.

Needs Commodore flares and a HDT paint job. I have a set of Commodore flares that you can have dirt cheap if you want ?

Anyway this is looking great - can't wait to see it finished.

Done a bit today, pulled the front out again and trim, trim, trim. That sky hook comes in handy. :)

The rails are now straight to each other
Will castor stay the same?
Not quite, they've tilted forward a bit. I've got a Kingchrome angle finder ( http://www.toolmart.com.au/k11076.html ) but I havent put it on the strut yet.
I used this to check the rails.

So.............Just when I thought it was smooth sailing, I fitted up the left guard just to find that the damn wheel didn't fit the damn arch! :furious:

it would appear, that in their wisdom, the designers thought it best to "mix things up a bit" on the Stato front.
The rear of the skirts where they meet the firewall aren't the same contour left to right. Hard to pick by eye.

After I found the wheelarch problem, the measuring stick found 20mm difference in the wheelbase left to right.

So further notching on the left side to sort it. All good now. The wheel base is the same and the distance between the strut and the "thingo" panel under the windscreen is the same.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

You might see the difference in the contour?

Posted Image

Posted Image

I dunno? Is there something about not making everything square and parallel
that would add strenght to a shell?

There are some weirdo bits in the floor pan and the g/box crossmember mounts too.?

Or maybe it's just for clearances? :dontknow:

A bit more.............

Hard to see in the pic so I've accentuated it with the yellow lines. I don't know if this is how it is? or? the result of the accidents? or? years of stress on the gearbox crossmember? But.............the floor pan sags in the middle.

Posted Image

So......................... I jacked it up

Posted Image

This brought the Torana and Stato floor pans more in line at the rear and at the trans tunnel.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Once the floor pan heights were aligned, I was able to trim the Stato rear assembly to the Torana floor pan height.
I'll have to pull it apart again to do the fold by you get the picture?

Posted Image

Posted Image

I've also trimmed the front guards to fit around the strut tower, relieved the bonnet in the hinge area and removed a knob off the top of the strut tower so the bonnet will close without interference.

Posted Image

Posted Image

And a bit off tappy-tappy-knock-knock on the rear wheel arches to align them.

Posted Image

And I Drinked? Drank? Drunk? Some beer.
