Looks to me like someone has taken one of those god awful metal bladed aftermarket engine fans and mated it to a 12v electric motor from an old 12v camping fridge. They have even braced the fan blades to stop them flexing (which they were designed to do)and hitting the mounting brackets. Those metal fans are just plain useless and dangerous.

Take it off and put it up on a shelf in the shed for display, that is all it is good for!

You can go back to the original metal engine driven fan and put up with it or install an electrical one that work.

I have the AU fan setup which is just awesome but bulky. Someone here has used a smaller one off the mondeo (I think) which fits easier.

On the shelf or in the bin!!

Yeah when I re-wired the harness, Ive fitted extra wiring for a temp sensor in the manifold which will switch GND for a relay that will run a thermo fan.

The motor is a davies craig unit, same as fitted to the a9x, 76-80 holdens with aircon.
Bracket looks like from a kingswood, but they were always fitted on outside of radiator.

fan blades, looks like a couple are from a 7 blade clutch fan, others fabricated.

Original fan blades on these were like on this one:
http://www.google.co...iw=1133&bih=571

but they could warp or crack.

Id of thought the metal blades shown would be a bit heavy for that motor

Ooh, and there's a thought, Ive got two of the slim line davies craigs in the shed and a preslite(they put them on the kingswoods)+ a frame to fit two of them to a chev radiator in the shed.....

The motor in hanra's photo is not the A9X one, the correct A9X one is in your link.

I reckon its a standard mid to late 80's thermo fan with an after market flexi fan thing on it.

This is the fan on one of my cars which were all the rage at the time, though you will end up with finger like that dude in Max Max 2 that tried to catch the boomerang if you get to close to it!

Now that Shiney has pinpointed the fan's original configuration, looks to be originally designed for the condensers you see on refrigerated trucks.

Good on them. At least they went to the trouble of having a look.   I spent some time writing to the biggest Repco shops back in the early 1990's looking for the old tooling from their engineering days and all I got was the literal equivalent of blank stares back.
