Hey again,
Next idea, related to previous post,
The guys at work where working on a Jag Coupe,
had the back end out,
Pity didn't have the camera to take some pics,
Is back in the car now.

So the question,
Has anyone heard of using a Jaguar rear end in another vehicle,
OR even using one in a torana??

The reasons,
Was a hell beast diff setup,
Independant Suspension,
Inboard disc brakes,
ie discs on the diff end on the drive shafts, (no mag wheel clearance issues)
Big discs too, big brake pads.
10 bolt LSD centre,
I guess the term is cartridge setup,
ie diff suspension etc come out in one piece,
There is a frame around the diff that the suspension mounts onto,
This is mounted in 3 places onto the chassis rails.

:google: it but could not find any pics to show the setup,

Cheers
Chris.

Lots of hotrods run Jag rear ends :spoton: :spoton: they look real nice chromed, I have seen on Torana with one in it, it was for sale last year, it was an LH torana with a UC tilt front on it.

Just to prove myself wrong,
I found a site where the guy is restoring a jag,
Some good pics of the jag setup,
That one has the spin on centre nut for the old school jag spoked wheels,
the one I same had a 5 bolt standard type plate,
Twin shocks and springs, nice.

Jag Resto page

I know that they look very strong,
and I know where there is a smashed Jag going cheap.
Just wanted to find out is the idea is a fesible one,
Idea get a boilermaker I know to make some rails to mount the thing into a Torana,

Cheers
Chris.

edit, need to scroll to bottom half of page for good pics of the assembled diff.

Those chromed & polished jag rear ends look awsome on those rods, heaps better than putting a nine inch in when it comes to hot rods.

I know I'm showing my age, but there used to be an ad in Custom Vans and Trucks for a place advertising those conversions for most Holdens. HQ - WB van was the popular one, along with HQ sedans and I think Torana kits were also available. Nothing new, but it hasn't been done for a while AFAIK.

UM, talk about weak and not stable like the jag....

The jag is double wishbone, the commodores arent, and therefore the rim actually changes camber drastically.....

The Jag diff is more suitable for the conversion because the whole assembly is housed in its on cradle or frame. Therefore you only need to mount the cradle and it all goes in. However the Commodore rear end is a semi trailing link rear end which would require extensive modifications to the Torana floor to make it fit.
On another note the Jag rear end is an interesting one because while it is techniquely a double wishbone arrangment, the half shaft acts as the top wishbone. The reason for doing this is because they didn't have CV joints back then (the mini used a rubber boot as the flexible joint) so it meant they could put a uni on the half shaft and still make it work, quite clever.
