Im currently running an old Elerbrock Performer Intake Manifold on the LX ( 308) with the 603 Rochester,Ive been told by two different guys now that if you use the Stock 308 Manifold and cut out some divider plate inside it that this outflows/outperforms any of the aftermarket manifolds?!.

Can anyone offer any info on this,I searched but could not find the info.......

Without knowing much about 308's i'd say thats a very very open ended question............

It might work better in a certain application, but i doubt it would outperform anything under any circumstance.

Cheers.

If your using an auto I'd stick with the Edelbrock

If your manual or after more HP up high and less response down low... chop the guts out of the stocker

The stock intake is not bad for stock stroke 308's and 253's.

Years ago at a dyno facility I was working at we cut the divider out of stock intakes twice at the request of customers.

It cost HP and TQ in both cases.

FWIW I am a big fan of the Performer, even if no-one else is.

the stocky 308 manifold(of which there were a coupla slightly different designs)was a very good manifold for the 308 for up 5000 rpm..std street vehicles

altho they used that same manifold on the L34,A9X and later commodore race cars up to 7000 rpm..guess they made them work

the cutting out of the divider directly under the carb was a common mod..probabaly to open up a plenum of sorts and help it to breath

Datto: I'm running T350 Gearbox ,I'd much rather manual but after going through 2 x Aussie 4 Spd then 2 X Ford Single Rail I opted for the T350 at the time ,sounds like I should stick with the Performer Manifold then.

I'd really like to fit the Supra box but I suspect the cost would be outrageous?,the rest of the guys= thanks for the info

I have a Performer on my mini stroker
And I'll be likely running a T350 too

A good street combo

Infact I have the same style manifold on my 385 Chev... again.. streetable RPM

And I didn't believe Brocky revved his cars even over 6000 ... he could just drive !!

I'm with Struggler. The Performer is a great choice for 308's. Very happy with the results both present and past. Good power up to 6500rpm.
