What Chopper is saying is to check that the centre bore in the rim is large enough to fix over the axle hub. If the hub is too large or the rim centre bore is too small this will prevent the rim sitting down on the axle when the wheel nuts are tightened. If this was the case then eventually the rim will work its way onto the axle leaving the nuts loose.

Exactly.

And TerrA LX, there is no point in those photos, as the wheel and nuts will be <soap-->mouth>.

+1 The wrong type of nuts for the rim could work loose.

It would seem to me that if the wrong type of nuts were used, then all four wheels should've come loose. Let's face it. If he simply replaced three nuts on the left rear and then that wheel comes loose, he wouldn't have needed to ask us what happened.

What sort of wheels? Do they use tapered nuts? If not, then if they come loose they very-well could've unwound themselves and resulting in snapping off the last 2 studs?

Whether they were taper or parallel shank nuts, they can all come loose.

Wouldn't the shank nuts be more likely to unwind completely vs tapered nuts?

Just had a really bad thought,
Only two wheel nuts fitted to wheel, studs shear and wheel falls off.

On the first page he said he checked them all. if there's no further response, it would appear they were simply left loose.

main reason studs break other than most of the above is as stated b4 aswell, USING WRONG STUD PATTER EG COMMODORE/HQ COMBO - yes the wheel fits but pulls the studs in causing them to eventually break proberly allowing wheel to wobble and left over nuts come loose, i'd meausing the stud distance and wheel stud hole distance-

There has been no mention of any new bits recently. So I have simply been assuming that all bits have been there for a while and it happened whenever the wheels have recently been off the car. Otherwise, why would he have mentioned that he checked the nuts before leaving for where ever he was going?
