Superchargers can be turned by any engine.. the more boost they make the more they take to run.

The thing with MOST superchargers is that the boost pressure is there from idle to redline, unlike a turbo that needs to be matched to a rev range. You'll rarely find a turbo that flows enough to feed the engine at max revs, that spools instantly to give instant boost.

Also blowers can be less complex with the exhaust system requirements in a tight engine bay! and this leads to less underbonnet temps too.
