I have a VT V8 5 speed donor car that I am using the motor and gearbox for a build in the hatch. After doing some research I am still unsure if I should use the getrag or sell it off and get a T5.
Its my understanding that i will have to cut the tunnel to make the getrag fit, which I'm really keen on doing. The up side of the getrag is that the clutch in it is only a few months old (as i was told) and it is hydraulic clutch.
What are peoples thoughts on using the getrag? Which T5 should I go for?
Cheers,
Dave

I'd get rid of it and fit an auto. Or failing that a T5.

the other pain with the getrag is the elec speedo
I think that I'll go down the t5 route and try and sell the getrag... will chuck it on ebay tonight i think
cheers

And the clutches aren't that much more expensive if you stear away from the HSV dual mass setups
They are bigger too
Hydraulic clutch if set up correctly with concentric slave cylinder are a bonus too (toss the orgininal style and fork)

Datto, I thought all Getrag V8 clutches (VS and VT) were for dual mass flywheels.
Ask Dr Terry what he thinks of them before proceeding too.

I've personally never seen a V8 Getrag DMF
Apparently joshy put a Getrag in his puke green ute
His 'tunnel mod' pics are there
And he never mentioned a DMF

easiest thing to do would be to cut the tunnel from the floor and get a metal fabricator to bend the shape and weld it in... if you want to i can give you the dummy i made for my tunnel
the hydraulic clutches are awesome nice and soft and the getrags change gears like a dream... the dual mass flywheel however keeps road noise down but nothing sound deadener can't fix.
you can get full hydraulic under dash clutch setups from mal woods complete with pedal bolt in just drill a hole for your reservoir and fluid line and your set...
AISAT here in perth make a complete electronic speedo setup to suit torana, kingswood, xy falcon ETC ETC its around $300-$500 depending on how much time is needed basically plug your magnetic drive speedo in on the box and run it to your speedo which will be converted from mechanical to electronic...
yel327, he must of #@$^%& up with his shifter or something... or its not a getrag 290! because mine sits basically in a factory console and its a comfy place.. i only had to trim a couple of mm out of the console so it could get 2 4 and reverse
i am glad i went with the getrag as it's a great box... just clutches can be expensive... i hear exedy will be releasing a HD clutch soon if they haven't already.
mines just got a HSV clutch and it handles it fine... although i haven't really driven my ute to much as it still needs the final wire up

I still have the donor car which has the hyd clutch setup. I was triing to get awway from an external linkage type setup as i have an aussie 4 speed that gets stuck sometime in the change from 2nd to 3rd and its a pain. The bush in my getrag is shagged, was thinking of getting a billet shifter setup for it if i end up using it anyway.
Can someone enlighten me about the what is a dual mass flywheel? I have some pics of it, just need to post me them up.
In terms of tailshafts, what needs to be done. Use the getrag uni with the elec speedo setup mated to a torana shaft?
I guess my main hesitance to using the getrag is the tunnel mods required rather than the t5 which only needs the shift hole to be cut if using the holden t5.
hmmmm, still unsure....

These should fit without major tunnel mods, especially the overdrive 4th gear Muncie:
