Hi Everyone!

I hope you all had a great new year!

This year, my new year’s resolution is to finally finish my Torrie and get it ready for show!

However i have a few questions.

1 - What are the biggest rims i can fit on my LX Sedan without any modifications? I’m thinking maybe 17 by 8 on the fronts and 17 by 10 on the back? Would 18's fit by any chance? Back diff is an R31.
Also which manufacturers these days make rims that fit on Toranas?

2 - I need a full A9X flare kit. Now i have done a bit of research and Wilson's are the best. However i just gotten off the phone with John and he said that he has sold the business. Are there any other reputable places that actually make flares that fit evenly? I have just called up Alfa Motorsport Fiberglass for a quote. However they don’t make the large flares on the rear anymore because they never seem to line up?

Thanks

This question gets asked about every 10 days
And it all depends on your flare sizes , diff length etc

So ... suggestions
1. Buy flares.... ref Ruts threads in the panel and paint section on how to cut guards to suit them... he suggests a couple of suppliers of big flares
2. Choose tyre size
3. Buy rims in offset required to suit 2 above parameters

Jeff the yank runs 18's on his hatch
Howard runs 17x10's on Litre8

So yes both can fit

Read up McDuff :)

What size is the front?

Did you have to do any mods to fit the 17 by 10 ?

I have 17 x 9.5's on the front and 17 x 11's on the back with standard wheel tubs, could go a little wider if i wished with the correct back space. have seen 345 tyres on the back of a torana and the owner said they did not touch.

Nice!!

I only have a 17 x 7 on the front with a 225 -45. I still had to trim the front of the guard and the flares so I could turn the wheels. The rear wheel arches have also been modified and trimmed for clearance.

I have 8's up front and 10's out back, but if I were you....I'd mount the flares up first then take measurements if you want to max out the size you can fit. (since flares might all be a little different perhaps ?)

I "only" have 265's on the rear, but that is because I knicked a deal on them from my mate with a tire shop. I have a heap of room and one of these days will go with something wider for sure. (they are brand new though, so not in a huge rush)

I did the same with my 275's. Only $280 a tyre. Cheaper than the smaller or larger ones available.

Would the wheel arches still require trimming if you fitted like a low profile tyre? 225/30 if possible?

I'm looking at buying some flares first.
What brand flares are yours Jeff?

I would certainlly trim them...no point in going to the trouble of fitting flares to fit the extra width if they are going to hit or rub on the guard anyways ?

(things are going to depend on your ride height too remember...)

Sorry, no idea what flares mine are...they were fitted to the car when I bought it back in 2000...I do know the rear flares are odd ball ones. Ruts was over here visiting and we had talked about them. They are sort of a combination of a sedan and a hatch shape at the same time. (one piece though and not modified sedan ones)

How mine sits with 225/35 and 265/35's

And a little hard to tell maybe, but here was it when I had the 14" Hotwires on it with 245/50 and 265/50's (The hotwires I put onto the white one eventually when I swapped the red car's original engine/trans into it.)

You might, maybe see what Ruts has to say or mentions in his thread too ? Like I mentioned, probably is going to depend too on how low your suspension is going to sit and how much room you are going to need for proper suspension travel before rubbing.

Another angle on mine....and my mate parked next to me in his Mustang runs 225/40-17" for comparison...

What I meant about standard wheel tubs is no mini tubs ect. You should always trim the front and rear gaurds A9X style if you put flairs on, defeats the purpose of the flairs. I have modified my front flairs a bit for the turning circle, but you can't realy tell. Nearly all the flairs I have ever seen need some surgery to align or make clearance for larger wheels and tyres.

Your suspension height and wheels look good.

Oh, and on the height on mine...I like the front, but wouldn't mind the rear coming down maybe 3/4" or so ? Little hard since it varies a decent amount depending on how much petrol is in it. The picture at the cruise night from the other week, I had just over half a tank in it from memory...

Air bag it with auto levelling.

Problem solved.

Mind you the cost could be another problem created.

I know of a few
I looked at a green Sunbird hatch for sale in Sacramento (converted to 6cyl) while I was there in 09

You want to put big wheels on the back of a hatch get yourself a set of these puppies. They are 20mm wider than standard and are very good quality. They come from Melbourne and cost $180 for a set of rears.
