So thanks to Steve @ Cools Trim i have a full interior . My question is im thinking of not fitting the trims to the top of the door leaving the paint exposed , whats the consensus on this topic ?

My personal opinion is, I'd fit them. I think it finishes the door off nicely.

I didn't have the extra end bit stiched onto mine, looks better just with the hem down that back edge and not going around the corner of the door.

The vynal does't hold the heat for as long as the painted look..... so you can assume the patiented Holden 'gutter grip' much sooner! :)

What about rust issues? I have seen a lot of Toranas with the vinyl door tops that have nice crusty bubbles of brilliance evident underneath. I assume that if water gets under the vinyl from leaking door seals, open windows and a shower of rain etc if would be hard to dry off the moisture?

no tony, the rust cometh from underneath.condensation rises up and sits under there .rusts in and outside the door.just somthing i noticed.

My 74 I have the same trim as you. I like both the painted or vynal look but I have to say I'm wrapped with the look of my vynal tops. Check my build pics to see...

Ahhh, that makes sense Nev. Vinyl or no vinyl, just gotta make sure the drain holes are clear :spoton:

Oh, and to answer the original question I reckon the vinyl suits SL but not the racing or base models.

No not all, all SL/R/SS came with the vinyl door tops though. If you're going to spend the money to do a replica SL/R/SS interior then imo you need the vinyl tops or it just doesnt look right.

best tectyl up in there and make sure you wash your car before you take it out for a cruise.not afterward, then stick in the shed to rust away. put it away dirty and dry.

Put the vinyl on, less burns when you hang the elbow out the window during summer.

On the asthetic side I dont mind the paint but no other part of the interior has the exterior paint colour to compliment
it other than the doors window.

I would say any Torrie that had the black painted window frames should have the vinyl top doors.

Mine has original vinyl that's stacked up very well over the years, I've seen others hit it with vinyl paint and it looks as good as new.

Haven't seen that one, how's it go?

Personal opinion, but the paint exposed door tops has the smell of poverty pack all over it, especially in the later models where the S model had the exposed sills and the SL didnt. As one wrote above, its can avoid getting burnt elbows on a hot day!.

Obviously how good the vinyl tops will look will depend on the skill of the trimmer, especially how well the window rubbers etc are refitted later and whether the glue used doesnt suffer in the heat..
