Whats the best steering coupling to use when 308 fitted..? Ive heard horror stories of aftermarket rubber ones melting due to the extractors? What was the original material used?

Good question Brad.. I will be patiently waiting myself for a response, I am not looking forward to replacing mine either with the engine in the car :furious:

No... rubber is fine
Aftermarket urethane ones melt

So you want a rubber one
Or do the double knuckle

Ah har... I must have had that confused. So the Nolathane type ones are no good. Right.

So something like this would not last as long as rubber when used with V8!!!

How well do the holes in the rubber match up with the original?

I don't have one apart atm ... but I have supplied them before and they have been fitted

I'm guessing they are almost identical

LH 3300 SLR has used one that I know of
He's had it on there since before Tfest 2010

Well done for hunting these down Datto.

$10 plus shipping from Summit vs $160 on ebay for replacement coupling.

I did the double knuckle conversion and can't be happier!

Just get a 2nd knuckle joint and replace the coupling.

Thus is the coupling kit from datto. It only comes with the two pins, and needs a couple of extra bolts to finish it off. Pity one of my fitter pins stripped the thread, otherwise it would be all good!

Speaking of steering couplings. I don't think this looks like the correct type for LH?? Certainly a lot different to the one I bought off Dattoman. What's the G.O.??

Hi Brad

That is a HB, LC,LJ, TA Torana coupling. Definitely not the one for a LH.

Cheers for that. Is it just the rubber that is incorrect or is the entire flex joint assy incorrect??

F*CK..... why do people fit the incorrect shit to there car.... At what stage in time did the previous owner think... hmmm... Im gunna fit a different steering coupling to this...

Next item on my wanted list....

So, is the knuckle joint and the intermediate shaft also going to be incorrect? Or is it just the steering coupling?

I don't know heaps about the LH but the knuckle joint (uni joint) and intermediate shaft look correct.

It looks like they have just fitted the HB, LC,LJ, TA rubber to the LH/LX/UC coupler. You should just be able to replace the LC rubber with a rubber from Dattoman.

If you compare your coupler to the photos below it looks like you have all the bits. Ignore the arrows they were another story. I can sell you this one if you want original.

This is what the LC coupler looks likes from this thread. It does not have the plate and metal tabs like yours does.
