does it have a 74 L34 part number and the X if it does thats to sute them engines

All L34 inlet manifolds had the part no ground off with looks like a die grinder so they would not get lost in production

I have heard of the X on some 308 V8 Blocks, not sure why there is a X on the Block's.
The L34 had X on the Con Rod, i know that much, So much Mystery on the V8 LJ Prototpes and the Road Car
that was going to be made from the Secret Prototypes, the XW-7 Parts List was done, so that tells us the Cars were not far from
been put in production, only days away from going ahead when the 1972 Supercar Scare stopped there production.
So 1973 X Blocks well who knows, i have heard storys they were for V8 LJ's, maybe they are L34 experimental blocks
who knows, do they have extra webbing ??????????? Willow

Xu2308
Yes they do have the stronger mains particular the rear main they are the L34 Blocks rods and heads remember
And if i can say one more thing about the super-car scare, this scare was because the Ford Phaze 3
Ford made 400 XY GTs, in the year they were released in almost half of them where involved in some very seariace accidents killing many people how owned them the papers pounced on the dealer ships for making Race Cars for the street
After all they were the street production car that ran 160MP down conrod striate

Richo,
Your comment about almost half of the 71 produced XY GTs being crashed in seariace (sic) accidents killing many.
Genuine questions arsing;
Q: How many crashed exactly?
Q: How many killed exactly?
Q: What is your source ie; where do I find this information?
Q: Are you aware that your account of what brought about the 'super-car scare' differs to that provided by notable motoring historians like Evan Green (the man who wrote the article for the SMH), Tony Windsor (Wide open road), and Clinton Walker (Golden miles) as examples? All suggest the 'scare' arose from the escalating horse power race culminating in the proposed XA Phase IV together with the Charger V8 and LJ V8 similarly in the wings clashing with the 1970 all time high road toll combined with the government beginning to take road safety and the carnage more seriously than they had to date.
Cheers, TB

Why don't you ask the people involved with the project to their faces what year the development occurred and in what year the first batch of cars was meant to race? Most of the blokes are still with us, and in regular contact with many of the forum members. Surely that would resolve the date issue, unless they are part of some bigger conspiracy....

Very interesting Al. Do you have any other information about this car or any indication of when the pic could have been taken, like prior to 1983. Where did this photo come from. Just looking at the placement of the GTR XU1 decal on the front fender being up so high & back, & wondering if this is an XU1 or a mock up. But it certainly looks like my car, but then again, all red ones with sprintmasters do. Also, what is that thing down the middle of the back window. Does this car have a half roll cage.

Cheers Pete.

Hi al. Interesting story today. I have just joined, and have been a keen Torana man since I bought my first one in 1973. I went for a spin today - washed
the car and then put it back in its' shed. For some reason I was curious to see it the Holden place that built my V8 Torana was still trading. On the rear
window sticker is REEVES MCLAREN VALE. I typed in this and I found GMH-TORANA web site. To my surprise I noticed a discussion on my exact car.
My number plate is RXR049 as you correctly mentioned. I have owned it since 1973 and have registered every year since then. It is still in its' original
condition as you see it in the 1973 picture ; orange in colour - same mags and badges. I have taken some pictures today and when I work out how to
post them I will put them up. Hope this solves some of your questions. Yes there is still one of the originals alive!!!!!!!!!!!
