Why would you need a different block? Trimatic are the same as 4speed. If they used a TH400 they'd just replace the block with a block and piston kit.

I or Laz or Rory or Kev will ask John and see what he says. How does that sound?

In Tassy
i have come across two L34's, one was in yellow and the other was Barbados Green, im sure they both had the track pack option on them, the yellow one was in Queenstown for along time, and owned by Lee Wallace, and the Green one was owned by a Chef who worked at the HEC Camp Kitchen in Tullah on the West Coast, but he was from Hobart

And there was the Gene Cook L34 Torana, that Gene Raced for a few years, it was painted in Black when it raced, but i believe its original colour was Green, was in somerset in Tassy for along time years ago, not sure if its around these days.

Because it has a T400 in it

If it was dealer done they'd have simply replaced the block or used a complete HX-Z engine along with the TH400.

If it was dealer done they'd have simply replaced the block or used a complete HX-Z engine along with the TH400.

Mike Prowse was a guest speaker at A9X meeting about 15 yrs ago when he lived in Adelaide. Of many things he talked about was the Wayne Negus hatch. Apparently Wayne saved Holdens day at a particular race with a brilliant drive and Holdens gave him a GMPA A9X spare shell and so one evening Mike, Wayne and crew run it down the production line. Negus supplied his own hot engine and trans. Another thing peculiar to that car was they welded 2 tank cuts together in factory to make about a 90 litre tank. Mike said Wayne wanted him to help him drive it back to WA but Mike declined so Wayne gave it a run in hard drive back to Perth. Some things he was hazy on as he was involved in so many special builds. Another thing he was clear on was a lot of  A9X,s left factory with fiberglass front spoilers. Plastic ones can be made quicker as suppliers could not keep up with fiberglassing that's why a lot of L34,s had plastic flares ,some cars had a mixture .

The Negus car has a QT engine number and is definitely Turbo bolt pattern. No HT prefixed Torana engine block started life as Turbo bolt pattern, only Aussie 4 speed / Trimatic. The owner of the car has a letter of provenance supplied by Wayne Negus detailing how the car came to be built. Wayne Negus has a very clear recollection of the car being built and the drive home across the Nullabor !! Outercontrols comments are essentially correct. The owner has compared this car with his Janson / Perkins 1979 Group C car and the shells are identical in all aspects including seam welding, seat belt mountings etc etc. All in all a very unique car with a direct link to MHDT.

Has anybody got photos of an L34 in Burgundy / Maroon / Claret??? How about Monteray Green?  I know there is another thread more related to the subject but this one has more photos of different colours.

This one used to be Barbados Green. Now it's white.

263 cars made. Dont think anyone knows colour breakdown. From what I have seen barbados was the most common (and the best!). Others inlcude: black, azure (blue), chrome yellow, red (of some sort), sebring (orange), saffron (orange) monteray (dark green), white and nodoubt the list goes on.

Its hard enough coming across other LH 5000s in Black, a 74 L34 in Tuxedo Black would have to just about be a one off?
