Evan, you want to use a cushioned ceramic, that will be the best combo for what you are doing. Find out the diametre pressure plate you want to use and how many splines are on the input shaft and it's diametre, and go to coventries in morley and ask for a guy called colin i think, he is one of the few knowledgeable guys at the place, and was very helpful to me in the past in regards to clutches.

Usually the number of fingers and how thick they are. I would suggest that you look at taking a few photos and posting them up...

If you have used pressure plates don't use them
Take them to the clutch factory in DOwd St Welshpool and get Graham to test them to pick the best
Then get him to rebuild it to the specs you think you want

If your going to the trouble of fitting a new friction plate, spend the extra $$$'s and get a pressure plate to suite as well.....worth it in the long run.

heya gius
when i put the aussie 4 speed in a few monts back i put brand new clutch kit, althoe it was just a stand one, not heavy duty, and i found that it would not chirp when i changed gears hard. If i tried to smoke it up with my 235's on, the clutch would just slip. found i had to have it fully enguaged and rolling and then swing it into a nut.
so i was thinking that it was not heavy enough.

ill poste some pics of the 3 i have,
the bloke i got the 4 speed off told me it was new heavy duty one. it looks in alwrite nick.

was having a look at the new clutch and pressure plate that i got for the aussie box when i put it in , and its conciderably larger than the so called heavy duty one i have here that came with the aussie.

they all have 18 prongs.

ill get some pics for ya.

If you really want to try and use what you've already got, take it to the clutch specialist Neil mentioned, or one you already know of. That way there is no second guessing, which is something you do not want to do with a clutch. Nothing worse than unnecessarily pulling gearboxes in and out!!

You'll most likely find that the kist has been made up out of a Supra friction plate, and a Holden pressure plate. But as Dave and Neil have said it would be best to check in with an expert, ie the Clutch Factory. :)

Ok you have answered your own question here. have a look at your pics. see the difference in teh spline in teh centre. notice the fine spline clutch plate this is the supra one. the aussie one will not fit the supra box. firstly check the clutch on the input shaft, then make sure there seems to be a good amount of meat on teh clutch then take the matching pressure plate and clutch to teh specialist. from here they will be able to build you a clutch that will suit your application.

I have needed to do teh same with teh Galant as the clutch slips like crazy at present above 3800, just lets go. I ran a Heavy duty chevy 1 ton truck clutch in my old black VC SLE. This used to hang on like nothign on this earth. the biggest issue was the requirement to mod the bellhousing to fit it all. But I never had that one slip. Infact it was hell heavy that may whom drove my car asked whether they where pressing the brake... Just the way I liked it.. :D

Cheers

My mate also used a toyota Dyna clutch behind his celica 5pd/253. Very heavy! Very tuff. Made mince meat of banjos (as in snap the baring caps in half).
