My mates and i every once n a while go to the local paint store and buy a tin of paint thinners, either 100% tolylene or 100% Xylene or a mixture... It seems like it increase the octance rating of the fuel... We also use premium unleaded too and reckon it makes a difference..What is the exact science on these products and do they raise the octane level in fuel... Also can they damage your motor.,.. I say we add 500ml of each to about 40litres of fuel... Cans cost about 12 bucks for 1 litre so beats the fuel additives like wynns u can buy..Anyone else got any tips or tricks.....Also a guy who isnt a friend thinks if you blow bubbles in with the fuel it increases the octane rating, so he sits there with a hand pump and gives each tank a few pumps.... Can i officially belt this moron..please dont say it works,,, ill look like an idiot...hhahahaha

I heard it works well but I've heard that it is bad for the fuel lines, pumps and components in the carby etc (As in it eats them away). I was wondering exactly what you need to over come this? Grade of fuel hose etc. Or do you just buy everything to suit alcohole?

My question is why do you need this?? racing?? street use hardly warrants it.

Toluene (aka methyl benzine) an xylene are both good octane boosters. I used to use xylene (packaged as a performance boost from Performance Labs in the US) occasionalyy in the old turbo 6 and the ratio required wasnt that high, from memory about 500ml per 40 litres of petrol.

For the street you would need something extremely radical (huge compression or boost) to warrant the effort when 98+ PULP is available in most areas.

Enderwiggen is knowledgeable on this stuff.

Im sure you are from sydney, correct me if i am wrong but isnt most syd fuel mixed up to 10% now with this stuff. 10% is the max manufactures will warrent for damage and 10% is the government set limit.
thats not to say 10% wont stuff your fuel system in 10 years though.
fuel companies love the stuff cause there is no exice tax on it, there cheep gas and go stations been using it for years and after much protest by shell they to are telling us of the "benifits" of it and are promoting a new fuel.

you get it in One litre or 20 litre drums, the brand is Diggers..
Its helps clean out your fuel system too, only problem is for fuel injected cause it cleans the fuel lines n shit it may block up the injecters.

Its good to put it on a friday night and therefore youll berunning over 100 octane fuel.
Its great for hot motors.

I Whacked a bit of multi purpose thinners ( Toluene) in the tank of the monaro when i had a shit lot of fuel... and Viola.. Instant good fuel!

Its good stuff.. the ratio youve said is about right and Yep.. I'd use it!

It's hard on rubber compoenets though.. careful with fuel line and stuff last thing you want is to perish a line and start a fire!

Cheers.

Exactly my point. I'm not building mine to putt around in, I want all the power I can get. There are plenty of advantages from running higher octane. But I wont dare say anything technical as I'm certain I'll be flamed to death.
