Hey People,

Been designing my air box and fan shroud all day today with my mate.

I’m happy with the fan shroud but i think the air box is a little too big?

Air box is not totally finished yet!

Please feel free to comment or give opinion.

Thanks

Not too shabby! ....my air box is a decent size too, but not quite as big as your's it sort of looks like ?

Did you make the hole for the air to get in good enough sized too ? Cool fresh air is always good :D

It's a bit like when you wife asks you, "Does my bum look big in this dress?"

You want to say YES but for your own personal safety you say, it looks fine.

Nice metal work with the cold air box but it does tend to dominate the engine bay so I think if you could trim it down abit like Jeff (LS1 Hatch) has done it would look alot better.

When I did mine, I just sort of went off the size of a battery sorta-kinda. I just did it large enough to cover the footprint where the battery went, and that was plenty large enough for the filter inside it worked out.

Nar i havnt made the hole for the air box yet Jeff.

I wanted to fit it on and see how it looks like and i personally thought it looks too big and takes the attention away from the motor.

If you look at my intake pipe compared to Jeff’s, its allot shorter. I may have to modify the snorkel to fit it on to the old battery tray.

Any updates? :)

Did you shrink the box down some, or just going to run it with the size it is ?

I will get back on the air box with in the next week.

I think im just going to copy your air box Jeff

In the meantime i have been cutting my quarters.

I need to return my rear flares. I got the A9x style but they are to wide for my rims so i have decided to just stick to the L34 fLares.

Looks like you need wider rims the flares look fine. :-)

Shouldn't you cut more guard for clearance?

I can’t fit wider rims due to engineering laws in NSW.

There is actually plenty of clearance. However when i take the car to the body shop, there going to double that clearance.

The 2nd picture the quarter has not been cut yet.

That’s the reason why im returning my A9x flares and swapping them for L34. I can’t fit wider rims!

Can't remember if I posted this or not? But here is the sizes of mine on one side, can measure it across the width too if you'd like. Or just make your's to suit how it fits nicely. This size just seemed to sit nice which is why I went with it. (and it clears my radiator, etc) I made the cardboard one first to make sure it sat and fit as well as looked sort of how I had in mind before doing the aluminum one.

Mate thats F#%$ED, what will they do if your wheels are too wide? If you are just driving the car normaly not attracting any unwanted attention will the cops still hastle you?
Im looking at 11's & 8's the things not a daily surly if you drive it normaly they wont pin you. These laws are getting a little out of hand, FFS, the Nerds are running the country and are getting revenge on the Cool kids, this aint how it is ment to be.

Thanks for the measurements Jeff.
I do agree with Paul though regarding the measurements.
The laws in Sydney for engineering are way out of hand. I'm a sensible driver and all I want is to drive my car sundays and enjoy it.
I'm in the process of getting it engineering but it's turning out to be a mission.
The widest rim I can fit on the back is 8 inch otherwise they will defect you.
The cops don't care if your a daily driver or not. I'm sorry to say but getting 11's on the back in NSW is going to be very tough.

Who is going to volunteer to sent me over a communist......errrrrrr....I mean, metric.... tape measure then? :P

(I'll see what I can do later, can't remember if I kept the cardboard template or not, since it's a little hard to measure the bottom edges of the box in the car... been playing with cleaning up and getting ready to paint my new brake calipers today so far :) )

Thats ok Jeff. We forgive you this time :clappin:

Its amazing what a fresh coat of paint on calipers will do to the image of the car.

What colour are you going, red? send some pics when its done

The car has the 4 piston Brembos on the front now..and they are the factory brembo red (and in good nick)...and I have just picked up a pair of 8 piston Brembos off an AMG mercedes (which is what the brake rotors I used were spec for. The amg ones come from the factory in silver, and I didn't really like that so just did them in red :) I could'nt really find the same brembo color (it's red but with a hint of orange to it I reckon) so just went with VHT caliper red which is like a cross between the brembo red and the red on the car, lol...

Only got one done so far, but came out good! Will have to get some new brembo stickers for it (originally it's silk screened on I think?) but have something unique in mind for that.

Oh, and I do have a metric/yanky tape measure too...ha ha...just incase.

Oh that’s right; i do remember reading a while back in one of your discussions that you were trial fitting an 8 piston caliper.

Did you have to modify the plate that hold the caliper or re shape them?

Would the brake pedal be extremely sensitive due to the 8 pistons?

The 2 different calipers use the same mounting pattern and the new ones bolt right in place..will take long to jack up the car and pull the wheels then swapping the calipers will!

(Well, aside from bleeding the brakes, lol)

And pedal feel should be good. The piston are actually slightly smaller so over all displacement is similar. The Benz uses a 25mm master cylinder and I used a 1 inch one so a pretty close match there as well.

It's just overkill I know, but what the heck...ha ha...

Oh, and had a look around for the cardboard mockup air box I had made, thought I had kept it but can't seem to find it, hmmmmm... I should have pics though of measurements of the other sides of the box if you did actually want them :)

The calipers will look awesome with your rims!

i dont think its an over kill cause u never know, you may increase the cubes in your motor later on. :P

Don't worry about the measurements, i have a conversion chart that im using right now. Ha Ha

I was talking to a guy last week at the local cruise night with a stroker LS2 in his car....mid 600's hp and it's a daily driver...not too shaby :D but even just some heads maybe and a cam in my LS1 would be a decent enough upgrade for me, lol

First one having a dry in the shed for tonight...lol
