Hi there I went out to a private drag day on sunday 29 april where Uncle festa's yellow rocket did 11.3 @120 or so mph.Does anyone else know of any other cars past or present having achieved great quarter times ?

Love how hard that car gets driven.

I was there too. My XU1 did a 13.5 on skinny redwalls :)

thanks for the plug jim but your genuine A9X HATCHBACK didn't go to bad either running 12.5 @ 110mph that's prettty tough,..and craig's genuine LC XU1 was also very impressive running strong mid 13s....yes 3 very rare high calibre torana's out there strutting there stuff for all to enjoy and see..
they might genuine original cars but there destiny in my eyes is on the race track in whatever form you choose...
i will chase that YELLOW L34 of mine till it see's 11 zero ...not bad for a early red engine with factory L34 heads, original L34 h&m headers pipes and on pump gas..

Running a stick shift trans too. That time would be impressive for an auto trans car with similar engine specs so the fact it was achieved with an old school manual gearbox makes it even more impressive in my view. Testiment to the car's strength & owner's skill. Well done Joe.

thanks matt for your kind words,..your help on my car never goes unnoticed with me its a shame you weren't feeling well on the day you could have joined us for a fun day....

my engine builder Ned from hercules competition engines drove the car as well on the day and couldn't believe how aggressive the car was on accasions turning the slicks through first gear savagely,..i guess the track didn't help our cause as it was very slippery and going off throughout the day..we were revving the engine to 6100 rpm all day,,it revs so fast like a motorbike you've got to be on your game and not miss a gear as down it comes on like a tear away bull.

as for the fastest L34 or A9X ..i doubt very much these days that people apart from you jim and myself would be game enough to drive let alone race these sort of cars cause of there value which is kind off sad..i personally get a buzz when i'm at the track and people start looking up, down and around and realize my car is a genuine L34..

I still remember seeing your car run Joe on my round oz trip and it definately is aggreesive !!!

At the Nostalgia drags here in Perth a few weeks back i raced against a genuine L34 "HELL34" Plates he was doing mid 11s with Yokies on the back and after talking to owner he reckons he had done a 10 with slicks previously as in a year or 2 ago but hadn't raced it since.
He was running a stroker chev but  His matching number engine and drive train is wrapped up at home safely smart man i say ,a very nice car it was great to see it out being "driven"

What's equally as impressive as Joe's times in his L34 is that he achieved them with an early headed 308 running for the most part, factory or race team components. Joe hasn't strayed very far from the car's originality & heritage, the engine bay more or less appears as it would've back in 1974-75.

well lets get happening a serious big banger shootout...how good would that be i no wayne would be in it as he loves giving his L34 some a good workout..by the way ''yella'' your car looks great in unique cars and the video...

running a low 11 seconds times is a massive feat in a full bodied car manual car...i'm kinda proud of it done in my L34 and would be nice to no how many L34s or A9XS have run similar times with there 308s cars without the aid of nitrous or chev engines..

:stirpot: You blokes had better keep it quiet about the times you are getting out of these "old bangers". Some people will not want to know just how fast they are AND were.

11.3 out of an old red 308 with L34 heads is very impressive even more so that you are running a manual trans! would love to see a few pics of this car festa.

11.3..... I'm fucked! I'll never keep up now mate!

Well done Joe, You and your crew have certainly pushed that monster of yours into an ever increasingly impressive time mate!

As matty has said, Congratulations to you and as you said, With the combo of components you have in your car it's an exceptional result!

I'm SURE you will not rest till you have that 11.0 time card and i'm SURE you will achieve it!

Well done mate, Look forward to catching up again soon

well i want to lay claims to having one of the fastest genuine L34 torana's in street trim in australia that's stick shifted ...
car ran 11.1 @ 120 mph and ran 122 mph on 3 runs at GMH forum day yesterday...
i'm quietly confident the car will go 11 zero and perhaps beyond as i know there's still more speed in it..

I back that claim, here's a shot of Joe's rocket in action & from my view in the staging lane pit, it looked like it was close to lifting the front again with every gear change.

What a great pic and real nice times you blokes are getting out of those genuine bathurst super cars you just need a few Chargers, Pacers, Monaros and GT's to battle, cheers Aaron.

That is indeed a great pic.

Joe, you still haven't shared any details of the engine ! I'm assuming it is a stroker ?

Way back in the day when I owned my Group C A9X I think it went low 12's with a Grice Group C engine, Super T10 and 3.55 Sals.
