had my first axle done the other day and the shop reconds its good to go but i thought it would have to be toughened or heat treated or something?
any probs with going ahead and using it without and if not what is the recommended treatment?

VN V8. not sure of the process used to respline, but there was about a 1/3 cut off. would say the surface was turned down then a mill type tool to cut the spline.
I dont want to name names but it was done at a very rep shop.

The bw axles are not a cut spline they are a presed spline. so they compress the steel to make the splines therefopre no heat treatment is required as the axles have not had there splines cut. ie no heat.

i may be asking the wrong question but im after a treatment that goes skin deep to protect the spline from damage.
is this process called hardening, not heat treatment.
then again i really dont know and may be machined axles need both treatments.
may be they dont need anything as ive been told.

Your axles will not require anything....run them as they are.

iv got VN V8 axles/B/W diff behind a manual VL turbo for years of abuse, the axle splins are starting to fracture and chip a little, but remember iv had em for years so i would say theyre pretty good, i had the axles shortened etc for an LJ.
Youlle be sweet for years, of course depending on how you abuse it. :spoton: :spoton:
