I agree, would be good. Troque monsters.

Cheers.

What about a 265 hemi or a just the v6 with the injection removed. Make a custom inlet manifold, or a Chevrolet or Buick one might fit. Chuck on 3 down draft stromies or a holly. It all depends on the look your after. Ford even have the 300ci Canadian staight 6 in there early f tucks witch are quite common just dont tell any one its a ford engine, cheers Aaron.

Spoke to Glenn today and he gave the name of someone in croydon who i spoke to. He has a 1950 F100 with all the mods i am looking for. I will also speak with chassis tech. Thanks for the leads.
I was told that i may be able to fit a v8 with a low power output as there is some regulation with regards to power to rate ratio. When he gets off his P's he can then change it when he starts spending his own money

Something like that nicely reconditioned and nice and stock will likely do half a million kays before it shows signs of tiredness, much like a stock Holden six.

Cheers.

This is the truck i won on ebay only to find out they sold it earlier not thru ebay.Oh well looks like it's gone too a good home.guy said he has a 3 window one on the way.How much did you pay if you don't mind me asking.

Ian who sold me the truck seems a good bloke and seems well known in the truck scene. He imports lots of parts.
Paid just a bit less than he was asking for it and will get some panels off him soon. It was still on ebay when i agreed the deal after viewing it so you must have tried to buy it before he had the chance to remove it. He had a 55 f100 when i was there with all new panels.

Had a guy come around to price up the chassis work so waiting to hear what the cost is going to be.

Still undecided about the engine options but reckon on going the v8 route so we only do the engine and box mounts once. Would a 253 and trimatic option work as i have these sitting on my garage floor

Great project and one of my favourite trucks.

I reckon the suggest of the 253 and trimatic would be a good choice. You're got the gear and easy to upgrade later, but you get the look and sound straight away.

253 it. it will have the noise every one expects to hear from these things when done up. a six in it would just would sell it short every time it takes off. the 253 shouldnt be a prob with the power to weight ratio young driver thing either. good for parts and rego and probably less go than a 300 six so the boy wont get into trouble.

I have now finalised plans for the chassis and it will be going to a specialist to have all the workdone as it will need an engineers report and i want it done right.
The chassis will be blasted. The front will have a jag front end, the rear end will have some 4 link set up, chassis will be fully boxed and will be on air bags.
It will have to be 6 cylinder having checked what is allowed, no power to weight these days.
While its away it will give us time to repair the cab so will be buying a welder and doing this ourselves.
Not sure about chopping the roof. If we do this will be done by someone who has done it before
Does anyone know where i could get the glass done if we do decide to chop the roof

6 it is then............for now then. if ya cant get some good big cube stuff then id just go for the 250 coon cross flow. heaps of bits around, good torque and power compared to the smaller cube stuff.

alright holden six lovers lets have it............. :shoot:

finally have got going on this again.

chassis is at the fabricators and jag front end now fitted. Now working on boxing it all and then the engine and gearbox mounts followed by the 4 link rear end.

will be putting POR15 on the chassis so no need to get it blasted saving a bit of cost.

motor, gearbox and rear axle being collected in the next week or so. Its going to be a V6. We are getting the engne mount that can accomodate the upgrade to a V8 in a few years. The whole running gear is costing less than $1000.

Cab has almost been taken back to bare metal along with the front guards, ready for the panel beater to get stuck in.

Will need a lot of new panels. Have priced them up from the states but will look over here as well. Anyone know of a place that can supply old chevy panels?

Personally hate the V6 idea but the work on the chassis looks good. I thought it was easy to find those Blue-Flame sixes, or TB42s, the H-family Toyotas etc. Sounds like I've missed the boat anyway

Can you just fix up the floorpan and leave the exterior paint as-is?

Havent posted for a while but all the chassis work has been completed.

Chassis all boxed in, jag front end fitted, air bags fitted, V6 commodore engine, gearbox and axle fitted.(is it small enough so you cant read it).

This what it looked like when the front end was fitted.

I had to load up the last picture of the frame a different way so its at the bottom of this post

Truck then went off to the panel beaters to repair all the panels. Panels trial fitted to the chassis, door handles removed and this is what it looked like. I now need to get the engineer out to review the progress and advise about the new bulk head and gearbox tunnel, seat belt mounting points etc. Need to buy a set of seats as the bench seat has gone and have the dash converted for right hand drive

Great project.

Personally, I like the V6 commo transplant idea. Small, powerful, low maintenance and CHEAP as chips for a budget build project.

Keep the updates coming :)
