Hey Guys I have read in a few posts on here that you can put a 253 crank in a 308 block, thus creating a stroker...
My questions are
Can this really be done?
How can it be done? (what is needed?)
Will it be reliable?
Is it worth doing?
Comments will be greatly appreciated as I have a 308 which needs a new crank, and a 253 which is ok but I dont really want another one. Hence the questions

you wont gain anything from doing that, other than a very unbalanced engine. they have the same stroke.
you could get the 253 crank offset ground then you have a 330 odd cube stroker build on your hands.......

As mentioned by Makka you use an offset ground 253 crank with a SBC small journal rod and a 350 Chev piston (or machined down 308) to create a 328ci stroker.

You need to have light pistons because the counterbalances on the 253 crank are smaller than the 308s. Heavier pistons will put everything out of balance and vibrate excessively.

One guy that does the 253 crank thing actually gets a crank specially cast with extra webs added at the centre.

So in all reality I will be better off if I go for the regrind on the 308 crank and maybe offset grind on that one?

It is my understanding that rebalancing a 253 crank for a 308 motor is rather costly and thus somewhat inhibiting! That is it defeats the purpose when considered dollar for dollar.
Which is a shame as I have plenty of 253 bits lol.

pro stroke
most of the time when you get an ofset grind crank its a 253 one, because the chev pistons and rods used in a 330 stroker are lighter than 308 pistons and rods I think.
