Got my first lj 30 years ago, wish I still had that one.

My current lj two door I have owned for eleven years, my sedan for ten years.

Cheers Graham .

About 8 years I think... had it for 2-3 years before getting rego. But that's not the important part.

The important part is: I'm never going to sell it! Its MY car, and it stays with me till one of us dies.

I've had my LJ for 16 years. First car I ever brought. Been close to selling it a couple of times as its been sitting idle for most of the last 10 years at least. Got cold feet every time and chickened out.

I have had my Royal Plum 5.0 litre SS hatch for 18 and a half years now.

The original bill of sale has it sold by Zupps Mt Gravatt Brisbane, to a bloke who, at that time, lived in the same suburb as I do now.

So, some years ago, I looked up the guys name in the phone book, and found there was someone with his surname, still living at that address.

So I went for a visit with the SS and after repeated knocking on the front door, I was finally met by a very old lady with a walking frame.

I asked her if Barry so and so still lived there, to which she answered "no, why"?

Pointing to my black and white SS parked out front, I said 'he use to own that car"

She confidently corrected me with 'NO, that's not his car, his was Purple"

I said 'Ahhh, it is B&W now but was Purple originally'

She then told me he only lives one suburb away, and proceeded to give me his address, adding that he'd love to see it, as he has always wondered what happened to it.

So off I went to his new address, where I was confronted by him and his whole family, who were all over the moon to either see it again (mum and dad) or see it for the first time (their children) all of whom had been told about it all their lives. (especially the eldest son, who's impending birth in '79 was the reason the Torry had to go!!)

Was great to hear Torana stories and to see the smiles on all their faces

Anyway, here are a couple of pics from the day I picked it up, back in May '97.....

Bought it in 2012 the 1972 Strike me Pink LJ GTR, so 3 years now,  the day I fully paid for it and on the Truck to be delivered to the freight mob to bring it home. Thanks to the old owner who waited from the time of deposit until final payment and organised truck to deliver it to freight mob.

Awesome story; original SS?

Would you ever bring it back to purple?

As much as I like Royal Plum, B&W is one of the best schemes.

Thankyou StephenSLR!

Yes its a factory 5.0 litre 4 speed SS, matching numbers, tags never off.

The plan is to do a full bare metal restoration and will definitely be taking it back to purple!

I have a couple of other smaller projects to complete first, then its straight into the shed where the rotisserie awaits!!

Yep, will most certainly be sharing all the trials and tribulations in a comprehensive build thread!

I'll be keeping the flares, scoops, spoilers etc. for 2 reasons....

A) Rear guards and bonnet have alreday been chopped by a previous owner back in the late 80's

B) I simply love the A9X look !!
