Im looking for a place to mount my monster tacho Legaly, i first put it above the dash on the right, but its a tad obstructing so im sure its illegal,

Where is a good spot?

i pulled out the drivers air vent, but i would need to chop it up a tad to get it right in there.

so before i chop is there another good spot?

would it be legal to have no drivers air vent :<_<:

Cheers,
Nathan

if I ever had one it would go on the column infront of the factory tacho (LH), or in the dash where the tacho goes

The bloke with the blue Supercharged V6 UC Hatch has a 5" sitting in that centre panel where your ashtray and CD player go... probably wouldn't be my first preferance because it's not in your line of vision, but it looks neat at least.

Mine is fixed to my column with 2 big hose clamps joined together. I know of someone who made a plate that fixes in where the ashtray goes and put it there

In the air vent would be pretty cool.

But I'd go on the column.

Between the accelerator pedal and the brake pedal.

I just agree with everyone else but had to say something different, otherwise this would be a useless post. Big mother hose clamp and conduit means its neat and tidy and yeah, right infront of the factory tacho which you won't be using anymore. Its right in you're line of view and below the crash pad so completly legal.

Peace,

In the old days we used to go by sound, you could hear when it was time to change :D , mind you the stereos weren't as loud as they are today, exhaust, that's all we used to listen to.

Sound and lack of rapid acceleration.

Most of the young fellas set em at something stupid like 4,000 or 4,500 RPM so they don't kill the fully sick engine.....wastage. If your gonna hook in, don't do it in halves.

I agree there yella, but I think if my car had one, i'd throw it on ebay first, just to get the money, the bin was my first thought though, however, personal choice lol

For the street it's a bit of wank factor.
For the ocassionaly bit of strip action they do come in handy when trying to squeeze a little extra by altering your shift revs.
Or in my case in the hatch it was my only way of knowing what speed I was on and the shift light worked as a speed detector when in cruise.
On the colum is easy but custom dash mounted where the origonal tacho is best.

Agreed that the exhuast is what I listen to to change gears but like hatchman I drive off teh tacho not the speedo. The only reason I got a 5" tacho is that it fitted into my dash nicely, and most poeple do nto even know it is there until they get into the car..... Oh and I did not install teh shift light. Besides the only true way to stop your motor dieing is a rev limiter... far more successful than an idiot light.. :D

Cheers

the only time i make use of the tacho is when im bored and practise clutchless gear changing, I can understand that you may need one if you're doing burn outs or racing.

heres where mine is, it has a bracket bolted to the dash behind the trim

despite some people saying they are all wank factor mines there for a purpose, i set the shift light for 500 rpm earlier than when i want to shift at the drags so i dont go over 7 grand

I've got mine bolted to the A-pillar and as close to the dash as possible. Setting it 500 rpm below shift time is a good engine safety measure.

Just get a shift lite without the tacho, thats all you need. the sound of the engine tells ya what revs your at and the lite will tell you exactly when to change.

i agree,

i only really use the shift lite.
aint the best idea to take ur eyes off the road to chek the tacho out :P

but its still needed to be able to see how the car is reving. my torrie is a street car and will get the revs it was built for. i definatly need tacho, there great!

close to perfect shifts are important :D

cheers

Sorry officer I was speeding but I deemed it more important to see where I was going then look at my intrument they call a speedo, terrible inconvinience I say... ROFL not sure that would stand up in court.

Cheers
