I concede and appologise to the good Dr for my ignorance.

As I said, I have owned 2 VH Commodores with starfire engines and both had what appeared to be factory electronic ignition.
I also bought my eldest daughter a VC SLE with starfire and that was points ign.

Yesterday, I googled the Bosch site and there is no listing for the BIM-024 module for VH starfire, only the number for the coil, which is not an electronic ignition coil number either.

So...........................does the Sigma dissy bolt straight in without mods? :dontknow:

I'm interested in your project. I've got a starfire and was tossing up whether to ditch it for something else, maybe a turbo diesel out of a hiace. I think i'll probably keep it for now. Be interested in what you come up with.

B.W. gave me a good idea recently, a twincam barra falcon head cut down, 4 valves per cyl and a modern looking tappet cover ;) it would flow rather well too! but ill leave that one to the powercrazed mob ;) love to see it tho.

ot musings - - hmmm a turbo diesel 2.5 astron with the balance shafts removed would be cool in a torrie or a ld30 nissan turbo deisel 6 would be interesting

just an update to my original post, as i can no longer edit it (time based editing i think?)

I have a proj in mind.....

yt stage III head cut down

roller rockers for less drag losses

roller lifters for less drag

vk maybe inj manifold

vs(sequential) inj computer reprogrammed to run a starfire - 2 coil packs of the v6 will do away with the losses of a dizzy.
reprogrammed with the knowledge of the good folks of delcohacking.net

thinner rings - with accompanying pistons for less drag

192 pistons to bring it to a 2.1L

rewelded and properly balanced 202 crank. capacity ? 2.3L

and secret weapon no 1!

You get 15 mins to edit posts, after that you need to contact a mod/admin if it's really important.

I wonder what would have to be done to make a Starfire run on E85 ???

E85 will double the power of the 1.9 litre starfire.

Unfortunantly, two times nothing is still nothing.

to make it run on e85... nothing.

To make E85 worthwhile? lots.

Compression for starters as that is the main benefit of running E85 (or boost... either way)

Then, to feed your new found power, bigger fuel lines (in E85 tolerant lines, no standard rubber) bigger pump and bigger injectors/jets

You'd also have to look at the suitability of other items in the fuel system (carby gaskets, fuel filters, tanks etc etc.

What about if you used a EFI fuel pump off a VK Commodore. And a Megasquirt kit computer with an old school Falcon injector body that bolts on like a carby? Would the computer adjust via the sensors?

And what's the story with compression / turbo etc. Explane that more please?

the accuracy that a throttlebody injection system provides is the same as a varijet. its pointless(ok MAYBE finer fuel spray). the flexability , power and economy is in multipoint fuel injection.

Do some googling.

The main benefit of E85 is its resitance to detonation (pinging)

To run a standard compression engine on the stuff would be near pointless, you'd make just as much power as PULP, E85 is not instant horsepower, you can't just fill the tank and expect it to be a rocket.

The reason people make more power with E85 is the ability to feed more boost into the thing or run higher compression. (or both!)

Its as close as you will get to street-legal methanol.

I had a a15 (1.5l) Datsun 120y and I put a aftermarket sidedraght 40mm weber and extractors and it went like hell! But one day on the way home I heard a noise and after a inspection the rockers undid themselves and were sitting loose under the rocker cover.

But it was not only a performance improvement it sounded cool to as you could hear the weber sucking in air.

Maybe a weber or two on a star fire?

The hillbillies starfire
The head had ports cleaned up,v6 com valvles had heads trimmed to stock diamater
3 angle seats, new guides, top of guides cut to suit teflon stem seals, spacers made for
valves seats to acheive 135lb on the seat.
The block had 40th off the deck, rods balanced to roughly a tenth of a gram at both ends.
crank balanced,chrome top ring,10.5 cr,7.9 dcr.
This thing was going to be fitted with twin 40dcoe carbs, headers into a 21/2 pipe so cam ended up 289ex,292in(adv)
litf 329in,315ex. on 1.5:1 erson rollers.(they are lighter than yella terra)
As far as the future of it,who knows, starfires by general concesus are bad but this was going
to fitted into a uc which probably makes things worse.
It will probably just sit for now,was all just a waste of time. :P
cheers.....one the hillbillies.

Wow a lot of work for it to just sit and go to waste.

"starfires by general concesus are bad..." Got me beat why some people claim this?
I've had nothing but the best experiences with every one I've ever owned. And I've owned a few.

In what area's do you consider them bad?
