Just wondered where best to find a battery with enough guts

if your in Sydney, have a chat with the guys at Globe Batteries, Davies Rd Padstow, they have a large selection of batteries on hand, what your looking for is the highest cold cranking amps (CCA) for the size case that suits your car.
I know the standard battery in my car is available in different CCA ranges, its possible the XU1 size is the same, it's just you probably can't get it from your regular outlet.

how many cca's, assume compression on your xu1 is not greater than 10:1?
186 or 202, recommended is ~350cca, but thats to take into consideration that the cca's will decrease as the battery gets older. If you have to go very small I reckon a good 250cca would do the job.

Standard Holden is 425cca, I wouldn't go any lower personaly.
But thats just my opinion.

Again personal perference but I would nto go any lower then a 550CCA 13 plate. Just so reliable and will not struggle in winter.

Yes more cca's is never a bad thing, but how much does he really need for a 1970? torana?
afaik, 9plate 350-375cca was the standard back then(not 420), ive run my 202 for a few years with only a 7plate 280cca and it was fine, even at subzero and have never had more than a 9 plate 375 the one im uisng being 8 years old.
That is why i reccommended that with a modern ~250cca high performance battery would probably do the job.
I think we all understand that the cca ratings are far more than we'll ever need?and more ccas just gives you more years of service b4 the battery drops to the critical amount where it wont turn the motor anymore(~60-100A) is all youll draw on a red six..

After lengthy discussions with a few XU1 owners over the weekend I was not any closer toward getting my hands on a new battery for my LC. Most I spoke with bought their cars with this battery already in it. As these are the same colour and as the original Lucas batteries holden put in them when they left the factory I would prefer one of these if I can find who sells them.
Can anybody direct me as to where I might be able to get one of these batteries ??
Would prefer Brisbane if possible so that I don't have to pay freight.

They have heaps of other types of batteries too so since you have a brand and type in mind you can easily ask them if they do that yuasa one.

FYI on Optima batteries; i just got a quote today from a syd supplier
720CCA $286 and 800CCA $346. either is reccomended for our type applications.
i know for sure what my next battery is.

For those that are interested the above battery from Yuasa is no longer in production. I just got off the phone to Century who have now merged with Yuasa and have been told that these batteries have ceased production.

Kels is 480cca and still struggles on the triple carb'd speedway engine sometimes. It is small enough to fit around the CD filters. It is the Century67 (used to be the 58P). The 57 from century should also be enough for you. Two year warranty, so if it goes kaput........

Might be able to get you a deal on a gel/sealed battery once we know what you are after.
