Go to a camping shop and buy 2 x 12v hair dryers, they are pretty small (and cheap). They fit in the duct which blows on the windscreen. You might want to power them off a relay setup. They will blow hot air onto the inside of the windscreen which is all you need to get through rego here in Queensland.

What annoys me is that no-one looked at them during the rego process. I could have had nothing as a demister and got away with it.
Although if i had nothing i would have been caught for sure.
Just don't rely on them to actually demist the windscreen, i don't recon they would do to much.

Dont you have to provide a rwc from a licenced inspector(who should be testing demister operation,Ive been failed here, it was on a car where the base model didnt have one _ one of those perky things where if it is fitted its gotta work)

The rego inspection is mainly for checking all the vins etc and a few other random items?

The guys who did my RWC (or Safety Certificate as they are called here) spent most of the time it was there generally looking at the car and asking me questions about the build.
They did do the brake test and checked that the lights, blinkers horn etc all worked. Put it up on a hoist and had a look and saw all new bushes etc and that was about it.

Look up PTC heater element.
Eberspacher have a 3 element one that will fit perfectly in the heater box under the dash. the only thing is that it is 1000w which is about 80 amps or something but you could just run 2 of the 3 elements, They are about $300
I have been given some samples of DBK ones but they are only 150w each but I am planning to try them and see how they go

I know its an older post I'm responding to but I've removed heater box from my car and am considering this in its place.  Bonus is heating and cooling in one unit!
