I'm looking for a new radiator asap for the LX ( 308) and opting for an Alloy item, is there anywhere about Perth that sells good quality radiators other than that Browns Radiator mob?. Ive looked at many on Ebay but I can forsee troubles with such a purchase via Ebay!

In alloy
They are pretty much the only choice I know of
Unless you want some generic thing that you have to make fit
Places like Revolution racegear/go-gear/Searle race equip probably have something too ... but not a bolt in fit and likely the same sort of thing you get off ebay

Armadale Auto Parts might have a Desert Cooler in stock if your lucky
But your budget needs to be about $800+ or so for one of those
The Browns would likely be similar anyway

browns is pretty much the best option in perth. I ordered an alloy ebay radiator for my vk which said it was aussie made, got it and it didnt fit looked into it a bit more and the seller is in china. so sent that back got my money back and thought i would buy an aussie desert cooler (big mistake) they sent me 5 radiators before they got it right and even then i had to mod it to fit.

I also sell ally radiators been a radiator shop based in joondalup. The are a few option available from a Fab tank rad to a pressed tank ally Rad. Also koyo do a really good universal Rad to suit chev ford( although different fitting sizes to Holden fittings) but they are around half the price, they are all of cross low design and come in different widths.
I currently have one of the koyo universal ones at work I just got in for a customer if you keen for pics.

I have a Koyo one in my Nissan 180SX and they are superb!,ive only ever seen the Koyo ones for Rice Burners though?!.

Any prices/ pics etc of these KOYO ones would be great, just have to find out if the dimensions will fit in the LX?

this is one of the universal koy rads, they come in four different heights( which is tank to tank) in the ford configuiration which is what you need for the 308 once again with different sized fittings to the holden, its about $450 inc GST.

sizes are
482x448 (height between tanks x width between reinforce band)
532x448
582x448
656x448.

+1 for Browns.

You pay for good service and good work.
They don't use the cheap cores either, they use the good dimple tube cores.

I was looking to make a custom alloy radiator for my Turbo Falcon and couldn't find anyone who could supply me ally cores at a reasonable price.
So what I am doing is using a cheap VN commodore core and taking off the plastic tanks and welding on ally ones to my specs.

As its pretty much experimental setup ATM, one of these VN ebay $120 radiators will be the base of the radiator. That is unless someone can point me in the direction of reasonalby priced cores.

I am also chasing cores to make my own oil cooler, but it seems this is a feat in itself also as the wholesalers just sell to radiator shops and the radiator shops just stack on too much markup.

there is stuff all mark up in performance ally core/completes,if the product itself is made in australia its costly.

I myself looked at making ally units but the cost of the core, labour and materials was too much, far easier for me to have it made by the core manufacturer, they make a very good aust made product, it wont compete on price on your ebay china stuff and never will.

I put a Browns Rad in my 69 ss camaro about 7 years ago, all up about $1100 from memory but to this day i haven't had a single problem, the old saying goes you get what you pay for.

Another +1 for Browns, they custom built the ally rad for my brothers v6 kombi. Excellent quality and service, worth the $800 imo....

I got mine from Brownes... yeh was $800, but perfect size.. altho the core started to leak and said he would have to recore it for $700 to fix it... may as well get a new one...

Said I used the wrong type of coolant and that tectaloy gold eats alloy. its only a very tiny weep so I have not bothered about it

So what Coolant did he say should be used then??........ (to me) $800 just seems a hell of a lot of cash for a Radiator, also ive had numerous folk tell me not to buy an Alloy one because I dont drive the LX enough and because of that fact ,the alloy radiator will corrode out?.

They will also corrode if your engine doesn't have a good earth. Creates electrolise and alloy would be the weakest metal

righteo I'm just about to buy an Ebay Alloy Radiator but they have no threaded hole in them for my Thermo Fan Sensor, how do I go about fitting some sort of adaptor bung in the top tank?.

Do you need to get hold of an ALLOY threaded bung and get somewhere to weld it in I guess??.

Well I'll never learn!!!.....I paid for a radiator via ebay within 3 days of auction finishing and on the 4th day the seller filled and Unpaid item case against me!!. Prior to payment the seller responded to all questions but after payment was made I get an unpaid case put against me and the seller will not reply to any messages!,Im clearly being ripped off and have tried 3 times to resolve it all through ebay live chat but they are useless coonts! say they cant intervene and contact the member themselves.

I paid via my netbank so looks like my money is gone and I'll never see the radiator,$180 thrown away ,after payment was made I was then able to request seller contact details= I click on it and where is says members country the answer given is ????? ! and the phone numer is overseas,so the seller lied out his ass and is in china not Australia at all. Ebay are dogs and ive been ripped off

I dont think theres any way I can get my money back now, for anyone else thinking of buying a cheapy ebay radiator DONT DO IT!!!

That sounds like some bad luck you've had mate. What's the sellers name? So that no body else is caught out by this guy.
Good luck, i hope you get your money back.

cheers

After me giving the useless Ebay seller constant emails ,I get another reply today saying " oh velly Solly my workmate lost you payment!, sorry for inconvience" !!!???........" we now quickly send radiator today, sorry you not happy with Auction".

I had to constantly harrass this clown to sort this out,I tried about 4 times with Ebay Live Chat to get this mess sorted but they were completely useless to me.
