The phone rings about a week ago "you're entered". "for what". "the sprints, first round is February". Cue cackling laughter from the Brown and a huge F#@^ from me. So bearing in mind that the pink car is broken after Mopar Saturday this year and I'm too lazy to even look at it until I can afford to put a TKO 600 behind it I'm thinking "nice work son you"ll get yourself outta this pretty easily". But noooooo. "What am I driving, Barbie's broken and I ain't got the cash to fix it after doing Dad's car." Well done dude you've got yourself outta that nicely, nup. Brown man comes up with " drag the alpine out, you've got everything to do it, it won't cost you bugger all." Double F#@^! Looks like I'm building a car for the sprints.
This car has been in the family for longer than Dad's car, since before I was born. I don't have the emotional attachment to it that I have for the green car but in saying that it was still one of the old boy's cars and I'd like to do a bit of a hat tip to him and build up the sort of car he would have done. There is no way in the world he would have done a nut and bolt job on the XU-1 like we did, don't get me wrong he would love it how it is now but that just wasn't him.
So strap yourself in for another Backwoods special, Freddo style.. Here we go (gulp)

So needing to get on with it I thought what the hell, and started cutting.
So first up was the passenger side fender, it was a bit of a mess but lucky for me there was a NOS guard that the old boy had hoarded somewhere along the way.
NOS
Gone.
And back on.
Now here's the tricky bit, the drivers side had taken a big hit and with the bonnet square near the wind screen it was over lapping the drivers side fender the black texta line shows the overlap.
So the easiest course of action was to cut that sucker off and start again!
So with some persuasion (from a sledge hammer) the inner guard was moved to a more appropriate location. Now this might all seem a bit agricultural but it's sticking with theme of what would Freddo do. I'm thoroughly enjoying the lack of finesse and the practicality of the build but it's how the old boy would have done it so that's what we're going with.
And back on.
And that was about it for the morning, after that I ran out of be bothered and went and watched TV.

I know exactly what you mean, its amazing how much time we spend mucking around getting everything just so, its great to have a project where things just get done.I'm thoroughly enjoying the lack of finesse and the practicality of the build but it's how the old boy would have done it so that's what we're going with.

Rightio where were we, that's right building a tightarse trackcar. So it's been a bit mental round here lots of work and lots of kids stuff going on so not much has been happening down the shed. We do have a power plant however, now bearing in mind that the original was a 1600 we've decided on a BIG BLOCK ! That's right the 2.4 baby. Two and a half of Sweden's finest LOL!
