Hey all.
my lj has a front bench seat the rigid kind no layback function. 2 questions. i was told you could get these benchs's to lay back but i dont know whether it was a factory option with the lj's. my other question is, has anyone seen an attempt at grafting the lay-back mechanics from a kingswood bench to a torana bench? surely it wouldnt be that hard, just shortening the shaft to fit the lj seat?
and yes im fully aware of how random it may be to go to all this trouble for a bench seat. i recently did a 4spd conversion and used a tonner shifter to accomodate for it, so i figure ive come this far. why not go a bit further.
thanks for any input guys.

Some of the older larger Holdens had layback bench seats - i think they were called camping bodies. I have never heard of one in a Torana though, (they did have a bench seat in some of them though).

Hi Guys.
There are no factory recliners for any Holden bench seat, especially Kingswoods. Only bucket seats had reclining mechanisms available.
The only bench seat ones I've seen are aftermarket items from the 50s. They were a popular conversion back in the FJ/FE/FC days, there were companies around that specialised in only this type of work.
Worth an ask on the FE/FC forum.

My parents had a HK bench-seat Kingswood when I was a kid. It was fitted with the camping body seat (ie lay-back), and yes, we did sleep in it on holidays! I seem to remember them getting it converted after buying the car. After all, the FC it was replacing had it, so it was a must in the HK.

Hi Again.
There was a company in Sydney called 'Lay-Back Seat Conversions' that were/have been around for years. They did many of these conversions, they may still exist.
I think they changed their name to Auto Seat Conversions or something like that. Most of their work these days would be fitting of extra rear seats to wagons & vans, but they may still do the 'camper seat' jobs.
