Gday all Im looking to colour code an old set of bumpers Ive got. The chrome is pretty crappy so I want to know how I go about removing the chrome or do you some how just paint over it . Thanks Steve.

i took to my bumpers with an emery type disc on the grinder to get rid of the shine, the n smoothed it up and pressure packed em!
came up alright and cost me 30 bucks!

Send them to a chrome platers or bumper repair shop for de-chroming.

is there like an etch primer or something you can use?

Hi,
No matter what paint you use as a top coat,
the main goal is to get a prime to stick to the bumper.
eg
If you use a 1k Super Etch or 2k etch primer or an Acid etch primer,
all you need to do is use a scotch brite on the chrome and remove the shine,
of some 600grade wet and dry.
this allows the primer to 'key' into the surface.
Like timbo said paint will not stick to a shiny surface.
also would use wax and grease remover, to ensure a clean surface.

Thanks all so all I really need to do is just dull off the chrome and use a quality undercoat primer and colour over that. Thanks Steve.
