Hi I was wondering if anyone knew where to get the plastic covers for headlights that you can see on the A9X race cars from Brocky's era. If so how are they mounted. I have attached a picture with them on it. Cheers

Those look like the Aunger covers that had steel clips, Doubt they would still be available, But easy enough to make your own and use small pieces of velcro to hold em on......

its 3mm perspex with white vinyl stripes applied....from the look of the pic its attached with long screws that would also hold the head light surround in place.
Probably cost around $50 to make......easy as.

They had metal clips that you first mounted through the mounting holes for your headlight surrounds. You then applied two screws in the top and one in the bottom to the steel (chrome) strips. Race wreck they are just screwed into the surround in four places, but the car was like that when I got it, less the lenses.

The transparent acrylic for Yella tinge cost a whopping......... $17.

Alternatively, drop into Autopro, and pick up some 7" acrylic dome headlight protectors. Yella has them, just fit over the headlight, and cheap as chips. Most people can't even tell they are on there. Much nicer solution. Just have a look at the pair before you buy them, as some have a horrible glob of plastic in the middle from casting.

From memory those one pictured were made by Aunger. I always wanted a pair for my Torrie as a young bloke!!!

Is there a difference? The surround outer shape and mounting is the same isn't it?

Grant..

Aunger used to list different part numbers for them

But I guess LH 4 cyl and L34 would be the same as LX being round
And LH square lights would be different

Last set of LH surrounds I had were within a hair of the same outer dimensions.........
Did they change their pressing at any time?

There is also a non-Aunger brand that you screwed into the outer rim of the surround.

I agree, there wouldn't be much difference in the outer rim size of the 2, if any.

Also the 2 other brands that made headlight covers back then were Metrix & Cyplas.

There were many variations, black stripes, white stripes, no stripes & many types of fixings.

forget it.but you never know your luck i guess.i even rang heaps of old country servos with spare parts but none to be found .i just used perspex got it cut to size and then carefully drilled 2mm or 2.5 mm holes thru both the perspex and the surround and gently screwed them on with phillips head self tappers.it worked a treat.i only used 3 screws which you can just make out.you should be able to get a film to stick over the perpex to replicate the lines and aunger sticker.as for clips these appear to be similar to the ones that hold front door windsheilds on so if you see one at the wreckers grab it for the clips.
any sign writer should be able to do these for you.

These were in progress in the last thread. Just coloured acrylic, the surrounds already had four self tapper holes in them, so I just reused them. Grand total of acrylic.....$17. Was the last bit, so I had to be a bit economical with the size.

I used some tiny little self tappers, which I presume came of the UC we stripped. Dunno, but there were ten of them, I only needed 8!!!! Winner.

Looked at Yella yesterday, and meant to take a pic of the plastic domes. They are ace too. I have a couple of spares in the shed that I can take pics of, as I got two sets to get perfect lenses.

LH-LX, absolutely no difference in the surrounds. I have a square set for Yella if I feel original one day in the future. The only difference is that the plastic screw in block at the bottom is longer, other than that, not a mm of difference in the outside profile.

As I have original Aunger ones here, there were two types.
LH: P/N H102, and
LX: PN H130

there is approx a 10mm height difference between the two. Width is the same.

Attachments wise, the differences were;
LH: 3 holes per cover. Screws were installed directly into the headlight surround, and
LX: 4 Holes per cover. Screw and brackets used that would attach to the outer edge or the headlight surround.

It was something that we were looking at redoing, just not sure what the demand wouild be like though.

cheers
Mick

Just out of curiosity, why did they put the white lines on them though? So you could see that they were there?

You could also get perspex number plate covers and for some reason the trend was to put black horizontal lines on them.  No. plate covers are illegal these days right?
