with a 9" you will lose an exra 15% hp at the wheels. You need to remember these diffs where made for trucks not cars. Any diff will not last long with burn outs unless it is built for it. You are looking at a full spool and 3.5-4.11 gears and a in line locker  for the brakes so your not loading them up and putting more strain on the diff.

A well built borg warner diff with a full spool and 28-31 spline axles will be good enough for a holden 6.

If you do go down the road of a full spool just remember that they are not permitted in a street car so you will have to settle for a LSD centre. Being a cone type LSD they don't like burn outs.

So changing the carrier to something like a detroit locker or a is a big improvement and is permitted on the street as they are not locked all the time.

I run a 10 bolt salisbury with a 4 pinon carrier set up same as a borg warner 4 pin set up.

Works well for all street driveing and some light track work and the odd lauch off the line at the drags.

As per Dave above.
Replacement centres will also be cheaper should you need them.
A 9" is overkill behind a Holden six.......

According to Strange Engineering the 12 bolt centre is 3% more efficient than the 9" centre due to the height of the pinion in relationship to the centreline of the crown wheel. Strange Engineering make a 12 bolt centre section to suit the 9" for those that want the 3% back.

The Hilux diff was a popular choice for the LJ.

Hilux diff, 2kg heavier than a banjo, plenty of ratios. 500+ passes(I'll have to count them again one day) std Toyota axles & the splines are still straight.

hilux diffs are cheap and strong ,although ratio changes get very expensive so pick one with good ratio for your setup as centre changes are as expensive as 9" centres

You won't break a BW with a 202.

There are so many options with a 9" that you can not compare weight or strength without being specific about the components used to build the 9". You can not reasonably compare the weights of diffs without being specific about the centre used in each diff (open,  LSD, locker, mini spool, full spool, etc.) and removing the brakes from the equation.

The 9" can be built lighter and strong than the Salisbury and BW M78.  The Salisbury and BW M78 are stuck with a cast iron centre housing. The 9" has the option of lightweight centres and housings.

Approximate weights

Banjo open centre no brakes 50 kg

BW M78 open centre no brakes 58 kg

Truck 9" LSD centre no brakes 70 kg

ive broken / smashed to pieces those borg warner diffs years ago in my old hr & eh holdens . ive clean snapped 28 spline nine inch axles in one of my torana 6 cyl strokers - proberly due to bad workmanship more than anything . THIS time with my turbo 6 cyl ive gone back to the 9 inch but with moser 31 spline axles - if you have to worry about the little bit of power lose then your simply not making enough power to start with lol .
