Has anyone used one of these gearboxes in their torana?
I have an adaptor bellhousing and clutch set up for one,but no gearbox.
I had one of these in my hj one tonner for a while behind a 253 and it gave no problems.
Does anyone know if they are any stronger than an aussie four?
thanks guys,Damo

They are stronger than the Aussie 4 speed,I know of a box that was fited behind a 330 stroker motor in an LH that was raced at hillclimbs, supersprints & flogged on the road for many years without any dramas. Also a lot lighter than a top loader.

i think almost any gear box would have to be stronger than an aussie, with that being said i know someone who blew a TKO behind a stroker 308 in a torry so i guess it comes beck to what i always say, driving style.

Hi Guys.

I know what you mean, ALX76, about the relative strength of Aussie 4-speed boxes, but they're not the weakest.

Anybody who has had to put up with an early Holden 3-speed crash box, an Opel 4-speed, a split-case alloy Celica box or a Datsun 4-speed conversion would love to upgrade to an Aussie 4-speed.

I had a single rail behind a 308 in a VH a few years ago, much better ratios and a nicer shift in my opinion. I would say that if you already have the bellhousing and clutch then it will work out to be a good value conversion. Shouldn't cost much to oick up a good S/H box.
Mine had the shifter bent so it came out through the same hole in the floor too.
