We're talking big Torana?
Dunno? Don't think anyone would off hand? I don't think that was ever factory (but I could be wrong?)
You could be a pioneer here!

Maybe? HT, HQ etc came with column 3 speed and V8. But I'd reckon it would be an adaption in your case.

if your worried about it fitting just pull it apart and remove the column shift stuff
assuming you are not using the column shift
mine was a three speed and has had the selector gear removed.
i have just pulled it apart again to remove the control tube so i could do the "Lower Bearing mod"
not very hard at all just may need an extra set of hands when removing/replacing top circlip.
just need to be careful with inner steering shaft that u do not accidently shorten it .
the gregory's manual has some good exploded pics

I say do it, how cool, a 3 speed column change manual V8 Torana.
Is your car 3 speed manual now?
6cly 3 speed bolts up pretty much the same as a V8 3 speed so only problem I can think of would be selector rod length as the bell housings are different length.

3spd column shift was standard fitment to 6cyl LH-LX. Everything for a V8 column shift is the same as 6cyl stuff, gearbox stays in the same place, only reason V8 boxes have a longer input shaft is the V8 Holden engine is shorter and thus the input shaft has to be longer to reach the engine (historically, if GMH had continued with Chev V8 engines the gearboxes would be the same for Holden 6 and Chev V8, just like Saginaws are. But Holden V8 is shorter than the Chev). The only complication might be with clearance to the clutch rat-trap off a LH-LX V8, just use a mofified UC pedal and full cable bellhousing and it should all be sweet. There won't be a lot of room for exhaust though, I doubt you would be using off the shelf extractors. I'd try dummying it all up first too to make sure shift rods clear the V8 engine and bellhousing as well as the rods and column are in a different orientation than they are on HQ-WB.

Exhaust clearance would be the biggest issue I would think?

V8 4spd stuff won't help you, you need a HG-WB V8 3spd input shaft. The V8 4spd input shaft cover will fit as long as it is the same seal type.
One other thing to think about, is you can use the 3spd column setup to operate a 4spd, so it gives you 4 on the tree! They have the exact same side slectors. But you have to figure out some way to operate reverse, like a cable operated setup, and you can only use it when you put the 4spd in neutral on the column. You'd have to also disconnect the reverse swith on the column and run the 4spd reverse switch wiring down to the 4spd's reverse switch. I guess you could try a transfer case solenoid off a late model 4x4 to operate the reverse lever on the 4spd.

I saw an EH with a 4 on the tree back in 1982, it was owned by a bloke I worked with at the time. Nobody could work out where reverse was.

^ or just put a short lever on the floor to knock it into reverse.

I'm not sure what one of those setups would be worth, but I do have one. I would only consider a trade for the bits needed to convert the car to auto. So a trimatic, converter, flexplate and some sort of shifter. An aftermarket trans cooler would be handy, as I have a manual radiator. But I can always buy one of them easy enough.

well the gearbox i got is out of an HR, got it for free,
The box you have is a 3-sp all-synchro (M15) isn't it ? An original HR is not going to fit.

So you can't put an V8 input shaft in to it??
No, totally different box. You won't find a V8 bellhousing for it either.

So it won't bolt on to an M20 V8 bellhousing
