i thought hr's where still the opal non synchro first boxes...

You've got 2 different gearboxes confused there.

48 to HK Holdens had a GM-H 3-sp column shift manual with no synchro on 1st, affectionately known as the 'crash box'.

The Opel gearbox, first seen in the HR series & then used in HK/T/G 6-cyl & LC GTRs etc. was a 4-sp all-synchro box with a floor or console shift, depending on the model.

It looks like snickersbar has an old crash box, which will not fit (or last long) behind any V8. The only Holden 3-sp manual seen behind any V8 was the M15, used in HK to WB.

If it looks remotely like an aussie 4spd it is an aussie 3spd. Could be a smooth or ribbed case.

Yep, it's an Aussie M15, it didn't originally come in HRs.

Probably an old HK or HT box too, not sure when the smooth case finished. If the box is OK it is a good one to use too as you'll be turfing the input shaft and cover for hopefully a later neoprene seal style, those early ones are a PINA as when you park on a steep hill nose down they spew oil out the front seal.

I believe that the smooth cased box was replaced with the ribbed one around the same time as the 4-speed intro (mid-971). Does anyone know more about this one.
