hey,
I have just brought my self my first torrie. A 1977 LX SL Hatch. I got it for $600 which i think was a great buy.
It doesn't have an engine or box but that doesn't worrie me as im looking to be convering it to a manual V6 Ecotec engine.
I brought two dashes off the sellers mate for $100.

I have cleaned most of the parts out of it today and found the glovebox lid and ashtray So i have the complete dash.

No console my old man recons we can make one but we will see what happens.
If i don't have something there is no where to put the cd player, am I correct??

The rear springs are shot as it may look like its lowered there. hah

Body is very straight. Floor pans are good, little bit of rust in C pillar and rear quarter panels. Nothing to drastic.

Seats are in good nick.
Has all the silver trim and a front bonnet "silver" strip up the middle. But thats isn't fitted and i don't think i will. Probably flog it off.

It has a spare hatch that im going to fix up and keep it in case some idiot runs up my a*se. Or if the money is becoming a bit thin might sell it.

Will keep yous updated.
Ryan
P.s Thanks for all those helped me with buying this beauty

its your choice, but red + black bonnet has been thrashed. how about a modern colour with blackouts? or a modern red (eg Red Hot) with blackouts.... just suggestions.

Also are you gunna Flare/Spoiler it?

I've already told you what I reckon of it a few times so we'll get strait to business:

Consoles: Yes, they can be made, but it's not simple. You can also consider retrofitting them from other cars (VN Commodore etc, will transfer you pics later). Often it's best to grab a hatch console that is had it, do a bit of repair to make it smoothish and carpet it over, but once again it isn't simple (will transfer pics).

CD Player can be hung under the middle vents which isn't very good. It can go in the console which is nice. Best position is in the lower panel of the dash, but you don't wanna cut you plastic dash. What you wanna do is sell your uncut dash panel to someone else, and get a cut one.

When you've got a cut one, you install it, trace the outline of the cut onto the metal behind your dash, remove the dash panel and begin cutting (once again there's an art to this as it is f***en hard metal. I will tell you how to do it how I did mine. When that's cut you stick the CD player in and wire it up.

I hope you have lots of room around the house, start stripping the bastard! That's the easy part :P. If you need a hand identifying anything, grab a photo and chuck it my way.

Anyway sounds like you're getting it all sorted nicely Ryan, i'll chat to you later!

EDIT:

What you mean by black outs?

Black around the windows and/or black under the crease in the bodywork at the bottom of the doors, spanning between the wheel arches.

Yea Makka it will be a long haul but should be very rewarding when done. Will know the torrie inside and out for sure buy the end. Im lucky as my old man is an electrician as all that stuff is tricky especiall with a new ecotec.

Have been reading some of the RTA stuff on modification of light vehicles. I think i will give an engineering signatorie a ring to ask about fitting an ecotec and also the cost involved for the signatorie.

Anyone here know rough prices?

thanks ryan

It will be a sweet ride when finished! i also think that you should paint it an outrageous colour! Nothing looks better than a Bright Coloured Torry! You will get awesome attention and lots of THumbs up!!!!!

Hopefully we can get a good pic of bright coloured torrys when we have our forum photoshoot and you can pic out a colour!!!

Good Luck with the Ecotec option, it will be a lot of hard work but will be awesome when finished... U should look into a Supercharged one....

In NSW you are not aloud ANY turbo, superchargers, V8's regardless on your P's, your not even aloud to have performance 6's

Down here you're not allowed a turbo or a blower either, or at least I thought so.

The Supercharged Ecotecs dont have that much more power...

I remember them being incredibly shit in the 'S' commodores. But I imagine if you bolt Forged pistons in (and lower the comp in the process of doing so), and then stick a larger pulley on it might work a bit better.

No one said it had to be the standard blower either :P

The beauty of an engine with forced induction is, you can make the exhaust as unrestrictive as you want, because it doesn't need any back pressure in the exhaust, which is brilliant for power at mid-high revs (when you're producing the most exhaust gas)

your not even aloud to have performance 6's

I'll ignore that incorrect grammar and say WTF? What is considered a performance six? i can stick together a 230HP 202 without too much difficulty and a bit of funding, isn't that a performance six? They don't know that it isn't a standard motor.

I should have put AFAIK on the end of the sentence, it's a power to wieght ratio deal AFAIK, can someone correct me on this?

Yea thanks Leakey. I thought that bar might have been a sway bar under the back.

How can i check to see if there is one on the front and also the back?

thanks ryan
