G'day, I am putting my battery in the boot of my LX four door, which runs a VN V8 engine and wiring harness out of a donor car. Just wondering how people who have done similarly powered their fusible link bar - running the power wire from the positive on the starter, or from the positive battery terminal as per standard? Any other tricks? Just checking as I don't want to burn anything down. :-)

Duhhh - having actually thought about it, the power comes from the alternator, not direct from the battery to the fusible link. Disregard dumb-ass question please. As you were.

Lucky I thought about it, I would have burned something down.  :banghead:

I thought the main power wire went from the starter to the fuse box and that it was the

one that had the link, and that the heavy wire from alternator was to charge the battery

could be wrong though.

The original wire I had from the donor car ran from the alt to the fusible link and the + on the battery terminal. I was just tired and emotional when I posted, should have thought about it first.

Hi SmacT (Sam), I have a LX with the VN V8 conversion and am still trying to come to terms with the wiring. Would you be able to post a photo of the fusable link set up and fuse box? Are you using the donor fuse box in place of the LX fuses under the dash?

I am keen to clean up and hide the wiring in my engine bay, as it was installed with all the original plugs and wires that are no longer used (maybe for a/c etc?). All the relays are screwedf to the splash tray close to the alternator which I would prefer to move higher up and away from the wet. Just looking for ideas and suggestions, plus trying to understand what the fusable link looks like!

Any help would be appreciated.

The original factory wiring is like this. No fusible link between the battery and starter or alternator and battery.

There is a fusible link from the starter motor to the fuse box under the dash.

Hi Mark, Ill post up a link to my build thread whem I get home - it includes the links and advice I got through this forum.

I will also show you where I put my stuff, though others have done differently. Its easier than I forst thought, but does take time if you're not experienced, which I am not/wasn't!

Hi Mark, plenty of info in here, including the link to a How To wire the efi 304 and input from various better qualified Torana builders than myself.

http://www.gmh-toran...uild/?hl= smact

Have a look through, and check out this too for hiding the wiring.

And this one

Read away!

Start a build thread too if you haven't already, people will help you along the way.

You will need a wire from the battery to the fusebox and joining with the wire from the alternator.

You will get it running without it. But as your battery will be receiving no power from the alternator eventually it wont start.

Your alternator should be quite happy plugging away on its own supplying running requirements, unless the computer has some input into the situation.

Great thanks Sam! It seems the more I find the more there is I didn't know about.

I love your rebuild thread. Had a quick scan but am about to invest my time in reading it all and catching up to your current status. I am currently keeping mine on the road, just doing minor running mods but am hoping in another 12 months or so to start a full strip down and rebuild. Threads like yours make me excited to get into it!

Thanks again for the info.

Thanks mate, but mine is mild compared to some of the awesome cars on here. If you haven't had the pleasure, try this one, you'll learn heaps about bloody everything:

www.gmh-torana.com.au/forums/topic/42661-fixing-my-brothers-uc-hatch/

It'll take a week to read though...

Also, I have moved my relays etc now from where my build thread has them, I just realised. An update for mine coming in a few days. I moved mine into the glovebox. But anyway, have a look at it, a good search and you'll get everything you need. Good luck with your car!
