Hi all, have just trawled through threads and cant find an answer to my problem,

I have 350sbc,  Brand new probillet dizzy, 6al2 ignition, msd blaster2 coil.

Problem = No spark

Triple checked wiring and all seems to be good.

Have even tryed connecting the light guage red wire straight to battery to try get it going. still wont start.

Have tryed the spark test and it has spark on coil lead.

What has gone wrong?

Any help would be great

If it has spark on the coil lead then your issue is somewhere after the box, as brodo checked have a look at the rotor button, plug wires, plugs, engine earth, etc.

Cheers.

Have you checked for spark at the plug end of the leads?

have checked for spark at end of leads,

There was no spark, gave up that night, put battery on charge, then last night, had 2 or 3 sparks at end of lead, now none at all

It has a brand new 600cca battery.

Weird that there was a couple of spark and now none?

does the MSD 6al2 have to be programed first before start up?

WHat OJ was getting aw was sometimes MSD gear is faulty from the factory, infact you hear many storeis of this.

Considering i have purchased many, many items from MSD and never had a dud i always raise an eyebrow at these things, but perhaps bomber just lucky.

I love my MSD, and MSD loves me.

That said, im still perplexed by your issue....How good are your grounds etc, ie is the big black wire on a GOOD earth, not on a rusty bolt against paint for example?

Have you actually checked any of the things we have been mentioning?

Who installed the gear? No offence but when you asked "whats a rotor button" im sure there were more than one eyebrow raised....Just checkign all bases...

Cheers.

Ok,

I have never heard a rotor been referred to as a rotor button, but we learn every day

I have tripled check all wiring.

One thing i havent checked is a good earth from motor to chasis, the only other thing thats been mentioned is spark at the leads, which i have checked.

I have installed an extra earth from the battery to body.

I did the wiring of it, msd's instructions made it fool proof to be honest so any idiot with even half a brain cant cock it up

Is there any other things i could check?

Might sound like a dumb question........have you removed distributor cap and cranked the engine over to see if the rotor button rotates ?

ok..i'll ask the question again..doe's the MSD6AL2 need to be programmed first before start up?....because its digital..what do the instructions say?

reason i ask is i have recently put an MSD billet dissy in my 308 with MSD6AL(not 2) without an issue

AFAIK it shouldn't need programming initially. What's the part number? There will be detailed instructions and troubleshooting tips on the MSD site if you don't already have them. What is the LED indicator light doing?

Can you check the part number? And the LED?

One thing to check - seeing as you have sparks from the coil but not the plug leads - is the phasing of the cap and rotor. All these devices with a digital timing control work by retarding the spark from where it normally would be, and advance is acheived by removing some of that delay. So at full advance you are back to where it would be normally. Does that make sense?

With normal mechanical advance in the dissy it doesn't matter how far you advance or retard the spark, the rotor and cap contacts are always in alignment. But with seperate timing controls the alignment can be quite a long way out at zero advance (which is why I dislike these things, a lot). You'd expect though that even if it was firing right in the middle of two cap posts it'd have enough energy to fire across to one of them, like a HEI does.

So if you're going to use the advance in the dissy you should lock the box at full advance to maintain alignment. And I can't help saying that if it was me the whole damn lot would go on ebay and I'd simply drop in a decent HEI.

Hi there, my box is the 6al2 non programeable.

Thanks for the video

did some more checks today,

I installed a new heavy guage earth from the motor to the battery.

still no luck.

however i did manage to get some spark from a spark plug, but only a couple of sparks. and only a couple of times.

im starting to get a bald spot from all the scratching of my head.

im wondering if my dizzy is faulty?

have any of you experienced that?

jeez mate...i have heard a viscious rumor that MSD actually stands for "my spark disapears" :dontknow:

is the dissy and box earth wire to a very very good ground ei: no paint clean metal contact?
