That's frOcking hilarious. Is it just me or does anyone else find it odd that A: you'd need to make a video explaining your mickey mouse spark boxes, and B: that one of the retards on said video doesn't have sufficient intelligence to wear his hat the right way 'round?

jeez mate...i have heard a viscious rumor that MSD actually stands for "my spark disapears" :dontknow:

is the dissy and box earth wire to a very very good ground ei: no paint clean metal contact?

The dizzy dosnt have an earth, as it plugs into 6al2 box, and the earth goes straight to the battery

As with all elec problems, start from the beginning.

MSD do have the occasional "dead on arrival" unit, but ive not had one (luckily) and I have installed a heap of them.

The instructions that come with the 6AL-2 are fairly comprehensive and include fault finding, did you read them ?

Check your ground (as stated before), also make sure you have a decent body earth from the battery.

Check your wire guage to +12v and check you have +12v with a multimeter on heavy red wire

Check there is +12v when ign is on to the thinner red wire

Check for spark from the 6AL

1) remove coil lead from distributor and leave it about 1/2" from a ground point.

2) turn ignition on

3) use a paperclip to short out the green / purple wires on the 6AL - you should get spark

4) no spark ? change the coil and try again

5) No spark again = rooted 6AL, send it back

Check the mag pickup in your dizzy

1) the resistance of the pickup in the dizzy should be 500 - 700 ohms, use multimeter across the two wires.

Also,  the programmable version of the 6AL-2 will run out of the box.

The programming side allows for retard maps based on rpm or boost to be set up.

You can also set up 3 individual rev limits, ect.

I use a 6AL-2 P with a crank trigger and locked distributor on my chev.

What wire did you guys use for the thinner ign wire?

i cant seem to find a good wire to use, as the cranking voltage drops too low and the box dosent get enough power to run,

any photos might be helpfull.

cheers jason

still no go yet Jason?..with my smaller "red" wire i connected it to an original "yellow" torrie ignition switch power wire i had after i changed dissys and added a box

the "big red" wire i ran(extended) to a battery switch mounted in the boot to the positive side so i have a direct power source as the instructions say

hope that helps

the yellow ignition wire does it have 12 volts, If not try a wire direct from the positive side of your battery & have you changed anything else on your car as well

mate you should have got a little msd screwdriver with the kit, you will need to use this and set the little gray numbers to the right settings read the program and that will sort your problem, the same thing fxxked me for a couple of weeks.

cheers gong

Thanks so much for your help guys,

I think i found the problem.

I bought a new battery at christmas.

600cca

I was starting it with the points set up. i then changed to the msd, and was cranking it hard out with the new setup and it wouldnt start,

i then figured out my smaller red wire was not turning on the 6al2, so hard wired it to the battery.

by this time the battery was drained to around half charge = 12.35 volts

cranking volts were down to arond 5 volts.

and this is not enough for 6al2

i got a chrager and charged it up

however that charger was only charging to 75% as my new battery is a calcium battery (maintenance free)

once an auto elec figured out that i was trying to charge a calcium battery with an old lead acid charger he took the battery away and charged with a proper charger and after a few cranks BOOM it was going!

Man what a differance! it sounds heaps better!!

just need to permanatly wire up the ign wire so will have a look at the yellow wire as a possibility.

Cheers fellas!
